Let's start a pool.
Today, the Peso closed at 20.6034 against the US$.
Will it hit 21?
When will it hi $21? And to win, you need the exact date or whoever is the closest.
Only one guess for person, and the winner gets a dinner (for one) at #4 restaurant (excluding alcohol -- sorry) being paid for proportionately by the "losers."
Making a guess sput you on your honor to chip in i you lose.
Any takers (and givers)?

BTW, #4 is closed for good. Perhaps you could consider Donas Donuts.

Re: Let's start a pool.
Well, another "mistake" I made; sorry.
Didn't know "4" was closed, not my choice venue; way out of my social class (low).
But I would sure give a lot for some Lawry style Yorkshire pudding with real beef drippings au jus, not just brown gravy.
I'm not a great typist/speller and I was just trying to do something I thought might be fun interesting. Another lesson learned by me about Lakeside expats.
I'm just wondering if the fact I don't/never used alcohol or drugs, nor smoked, am not a real social person, has anything to do with anything.
So sorry about the wasted bandwidth (and poor typing skills).

Re: Let's start a pool.
IMO.......celebrating the high USD/low MXN is kind of crass considering the negative effects it has on the Mexican economy.

Then he passive aggressively suggests people don't like his idea because he doesn't/never used alcohol, drugs or cigarettes.

Re: Let's start a pool.
I don't believe Clueless meant any harm or malice by this post. On TOB I see others crowing about "how much they can buy now that the USD is so high/Peso is so low". The CDN is also quite high against the peso but regardless it will be bad for our local economy once the double digit inflation rolls in come 2017. And we all know that once prices have been raised they won't roll them back if the USD/CDN swing the other way.

Re: Let's start a pool.
I agree with you Bob especially when I see restaurant prices increasing by 15 - 20% and the USD being blamed.
95% of what is served today is Mexican sourced and has not increased in price. It would seem to me that operators are looking at the USD and taking the attitude that their food should cost the same in USD as it did before the massive change in exchange values, so they put the price up.
Yes Bob those prices will not come down when the USD comes down. They will go up again.
In Buserias last week I was looking at a rack of cheap sunglasses and asked for a price, 350 pesos senor. I pointed out that they would cost about 75 pesos on the Chapala Malecon and he said " it is the US dollar senor".

Re: Let's start a pool.
The sword is two sided.
The more pesos I get for my US$, the more I put into the Mx. economy; there seems to be at least some degree of 0ffset there, especially when it comes to the service industry.
If someone has little overhear and they are selling their time/labor, they can ask for a few added pesos for their work. They may get it and put in no more hours than before.
As for those who think it would be good deleting me, I have a great idea for you, use the "friends/foe" feature and your sensibilities won't be intruded on by me.
I remember many decades ago when the U.S. gas tax went u $0.01 per gallon, and the price at the pump went up $0.02. If anyone asked why the price increase, they were told, "the government upped the tax on gas," never mentioning the amount of increase.

A weaker peso isn't all about YOU.
So much of the manufacturing and technical infrastructure of the economy depends on purchasing equipment from abroad priced in USD or other major currencies. That's the big picture. These are critical for growth and expansion.
This is what will put thousands of people to work/jobs.....not your pension check. Drive around El Salto someday and see where you stack up in the effect on the economy.
Not only are you clueless, but also hopeless.

Re: Let's start a pool.
Agreed. Other than the very local micro economy, expat spending in the state of Jalisco has the same impact as a fart in a hurricane. Tourist dollars have a bigger impact and the current "situation" NOB may result in a reduction of US tourists over the next 4 years. Time will tell....

Re: Let's start a pool.
The pool did not state an ending date. If it did I would place my bet (hedge) that it does not rise to 21.
The exchange rate is beyond anyone's control here, just like the outcome of a football game. I can not see anything wrong about "betting" on either one.

**The U.S. goods trade deficit with Mexico was $58 billion in 2015**
"Mexico is currently our 3rd largest goods trading partner with $531 billion in total (two way) goods trade during 2015. Goods exports totaled $236 billion; goods imports totaled $295 billion. The U.S. goods trade deficit with Mexico was $58 billion in 2015."

Since I did not read any of the posts as whining I am curious as to which posters you consider "whiners."

Did I say that I considered previous posters to be whiners? Perhaps I should have defined the term as anyone who benefits from--while bemoaning--the adverse effect of the exchange rate on Mexican citizens.

Canadian exports to the US 2015 $397,061.7
American exports to Canada 2015 $363,054.4

So, your comments have nothing to do with anyone posting here. You are discussing anonymous whiners out there somewhere?
