Some guy was mad that he had to make a million trips and be lied to and get lame excuses. He didnt have the patience the rest of us attorneys have to consistently be lied to and he broke. They are now talking about stepping up security but not fixing the broken system and incompetent people which made this guy break.

The Office of the State Prosecutor confirmed the death of another of the women who were shot last Wednesday morning. This person is Laura Castañeda Amaral, the Public Ministry agent assigned to the Department of Prompt Attention.

The employee was in intensive care after being operated on for gunshot wounds to the skull. Until Friday morning the Attorney General, Eduardo Almaguer, had reported that the three women were still alive in the hospital. A little after 1:00pm, however, it was reported that one of them had just died.

At 10:03am last Wednesday Luis Homero Águila, who called himself "General Águila [Eagle]" entered the Immediate Attention module of the State Prosecutor's Office with two concealed firearms, a .22 caliber and a .38 caliber, and more than 30 cartridges in his pockets. According to clues found afterwards, the subject arrived with the intention of killing people.

He went to one of the desks to seek out a Public Ministry agent with whom he had had dealings and upon not finding him he went to the front of the attention module, took out the .22 and shot four of the women who were attending to the public. Three were social workers and one was a Public Ministry agent. He shot them all in the head.

An Investigative Police officer was the first to react, and shot the attacker who died at the scene, as did one of the social workers, María Verónica García Carmona. Araceli Bautista and Elizabeth Flores were transported to the hospital along with Laura Castañeda, the Public Ministry agent who died this Friday.

When you lose your patience, you get all red in the face and maybe make disparaging remarks about others.  When you "break", you lose all control and if you happen to own several guns and lots of ammo in this country with strict gun laws, you return and administer the ultimate punishment to whoever happens to be in front of you.  Not so hard to understand.

I get that people lose all patience. I get that people have breakdowns, break, go postal, go crazy, whatever term you use. I think where we differ is in the belief that dealing with bureaucracy can drive an otherwise sane person to slaughter human beings in an office. And, that dealing with bureaucracy is an understandable reason for "breaking."

Oh, Final-Arbiter-of-all-Things, you're citing facts not in evidence; to wit, "otherwise sane person". In fact, events would suggest that the perpetrator of this ugliness is anything but sane, if only temporarily, don't you agree?

Here is what I based my question upon. Nothing here about mental illness. The guy just was fed up with a million trips and lies and excuses. nothing here about mental illness. The system and incompetent people were the problem and it was understandable that the reaction to it was a slaughter. That is the attitude I found disturbing. Sorry if that offends you.

I would say that the guy was a general in his own mind would point toward some kind of mental problem.

FYI and FWIW and without comment .

In a criminal prosecution, a defense by the accused that he/she was briefly insane at the time the crime was committed and therefore was incapable of knowing the nature of his/her alleged criminal act. Temporary insanity is claimed as a defense whether or not the accused is mentally stable at the time of trial.

I wonder if the same holds true in Mexico?

There is no indication at all that he was insane in the criminal law sense of U. S. courts, where the defense must show he could not distinguish between right and wrong. People know they are not supposed to go around shooting people, saying that a person is insane simply because he decides to kill someone over a petty grievance is carte blanche for murder.
