iPad to iPad Phone Calls
What do the computer experts on here currently recommend as the best app to use to for a voice conversation between an iPad on a LAN here to an iPad on a LAN in Canada (no cellular or landline available)?

My iPad has FaceTime on it. I use it to talk to family and friends who also have iPads -- even locally when my landline is down. I don't recall if it came with the iPad or if I downloaded it. As you can tell, I am no expert.

So FaceTime is still supported by Apple on the newer devices like iPad Air2 and iPhone 6??

Bob, I looked at Skype and it seems there is a fee involved to set up a phone# etc. I don't really need all that - I just want to be able to carry on a voice conversation (audio only) between two specific Apple devices. Currently calling my spouse's cell phone using a Telmex landline to call free but she is getting gouged by the incoming call costs that are charged by her Canadian cell phone carrier.

Ezzie, my iPad Air is about three years old. I can't speak to newer devices.
Check Skype again. I think they try to lead you to paid options but there is free Skype to Skype calling. The only time you would pay is when you use Skype to call someone's landline or cell. Computer to computer is free.

FaceTime is a built in app on Apple products. I usually use the audio only option because of the internet connection available lakeside.

Skype can be used exactly like face time. No fee and no number necessary. Been using it for 5 years. You just need to set up an account at both ends.
