Phone calls to US Empty Phone calls to US

Post by caramela del mar Sun Oct 19, 2014 1:55 pm

Hi Folks,

We are considering a move to lakeside next spring and have a question about phone service, if someone doesn't mind sharing their knowledge. My wife and grown daughter call each other 2 to 3 times a day every day and of course she would like to be able to continue this practice when we get down there. What we are looking for is an affordable and reliable way of doing this.

They both currently use Iphones and with Iphone to Iphone free calls it works out pretty good for them. We would be willing to switch equipment if that became necessary.

Thanks in advance for any advice you can give.

But doesn't the iPhone 6 to iPhone 6, offer free phone call service via the internet? I thought that is what I read. Also remember that the iPhone allows you to download a VoIP app, like perhaps Magic jack directly to their iPhone.

There are many great options to include the Magic jack mentioned above.

We use Skype to video call friends and family. Totally free if they have Skype too.

“With a tap, you can make video calls over Wi-Fi from your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Mac to someone else’s. You can even make FaceTime calls over cellular networks on iPhone or iPad.”

Thanks for everyone's input and I realize that there are several solutions via wifi when she is home but we don't understand how nit would work if we are out and about. Are skype and or MJ able use the 3G network available down there?

Telcel (3G) is all I have here and VOIP works but I prefer a PC.  Might try the TALK FREE app from Majic Jack for Iphone.  I prefer a PC based program over IPhone stuff.  Skype is free if all have Skype .... and Google Voice is good (get Google up north)

Skype have an IPhone app?

Net talk. Bought five years for $25/ year or so. Box plugs into Cable/phone internet modem. Plug phone into Net Talk box look for green light. Pick up phone and get dial tone. Much cheaper than any cell phone solution. Has US phone number so folks for example just call an ORegon number for us and it rings where ever net talk box is plugged in. Used for years works well. Like Magic jack. Another solution is to get everybody onto Skype.

My daughter in the US and I both have iPhones so we iMessage each other when I am not at home. Works great when I am in the village and I have no internet plan. The other thing you can do is get a cell service that includes US & Mexico. My husbands cell is Verizon. Just another option
