Re: Tourism Hit
If El Chapo's son was taken there's going to be some BIG reprisals and I wouldn't care to be anywhere near it as bystanders won't be immune.

I would say, no. If the violence doesn't continue, it will be ancient history by the time the foreign tourist season begins.
The Mexican tourists are or have been or are already booked in for the summer season as families with kids have to get them back to school this or next week. Hot tourist spots don't stay off limits for long after violent crime scenes. For instance, Orlando. FL. is running at almost full steam again. France, Turkey, and Egypt seem to be the countries hardest hit for tourist downturns.

Re: Tourism Hit
I hope you're right, Slainte. Such a large percentage of the population depends on the trickle-down tourism dollar.

Re: Tourism Hit
I don't believe PV took that much of a hit 1 1\2 years ago when the narcos burned pemex's, banks and shot down a helicopter in and around PV.

Re: Tourism Hit
They cancelled a couple of stops that week. I don't consider that a big hit. There were cruise ships back there shortly after.
Re: Tourism Hit
Let's not forget the incident a couple of years ago where cruise ship passengers were robbed on the tour bus. I think that was PV too?
Re: Tourism Hit
A short analyses of the situation on tourism.
There is a major difference in the countries that have significant tourism income, like those hardest hit by extreme violence such as murders
In Mexico, the victim violence is more selective.
In other countries, such as the US, France, etc., it is more indiscriminate.

We were in PV 3 months after the Cinco de Mayo violence. Great big cruise ship filled with gringos docked in the marina. The town was filled with Mexican tourists.

Re: Tourism Hit
Does this incident show that Jalisco New Generation does or does not control PV?
"The rise of Jalisco New Generation since it formed in 2010 following the death of the local boss of the Sinaloa cartel, Ignacio ‘Nacho’ Coronel, has reignited the drug wars.
The gang is known for their extreme use of violence quickly seeing them become the Sinaloa’s biggest and most feared rival.
The kidnapping is the latest blow to El Chapo’s efforts from behind bars to maintain the Sinaloa cartel’s dominance in the region amid challenges from the emerging rival gang"

Re: Tourism Hit
There are too many unanswered questions about what happened and who did it to speculate about who is in control in PV.

Re: Tourism Hit
It was on the news here that El Chapo's son was taken...they were expecting all hell to break loose. I doubt if the war will be in PV. Probably on disputed ground... hopefully far away from those not involved.
