Cbob, Insults flying my way a lot lately.
I was a successful carney for 25 years. That's a couple of steps on the career ladder below used car salesman in most people minds. You can make a lot of money selling 5000 /$3 items a day.
Amusement park jobs are filled by local people. Carney's travel from town to town servicing the tourist needs of individual communities.
A theme park will draw more people, that spend more pesos, provides full time jobs and that benefits the community.

Maybe someone? will build a wall, a HUGE wall, so high, and make the Tapatios pay for it.
Much less expensive to build a wall around gringolandia than across the border with the US.

After that wall gets built, then it is truly the Gringo Retirement Ghetto.

Not a thing wrong with a Gringo Retirement Ghetto(unwalled, natch.) Gotta stash us old geezers & geezerettes somewhere since global warming is diminishing the number of ice floes we could be launched on.
Nothing wrong also with an amusement park but it's up to the local residents not people who don't live here & have no interest in it other than making money.

So how do we feel about losing Parque de la Cristiania? That place is a little gem. I might fight to preserve it.

I agree but further east (north?) is a lot of land.

I don't live in Chapala, but I think of Parque Cristiana as more than a "little" gem. It looks like the last "hold out" to me.

Jaja.......that wasn't directed at you Playaboy. It was more about the rise in crime when the Carneys hit town for things like the San Andres fiesta.

Once again, take away public green space where everyone has access to enjoy nature and put in a noisy venue for entertainment only for those with the money to pay for it. Developers get rich(er), politicians have more opportunity for graft and power, the poor(er) get screwed (again). The developers will be long gone with their buckets of money as the amusement park falls into disrepair and becomes an eyesore by the lake. Yeah, great idea.

Will the fees for all of these attractions fit the budgets of families with an annual income of $100,000 pesos.....maybe less?

I suspect that is why they have not been built, and will not be built.
Mexico invests in tourist traps for foreign tourists; those with disposable income way above the average household in Mexico. No Disneyland for Chapala.

Re: Amusement park in Chapala
thought the idea was to encourage higher earners here who would spend in the local economy.with the climate and lake and proper attractions could be a tourist trap. infrastructure is a problem however.

The Six Flags park in Mexico City gets 2.5 million visitors a year and the average admission costs are around 500 pesos..RVGRINGO wrote:Will the fees for all of these attractions fit the budgets of families with an annual income of $100,000 pesos.....maybe less?

Yeah, and that is just the way it would be in Chapala because it has many similarities to Mexico City.

It takes a Mexico City resident longer to get to Six Flags in Mexico City than it would for a Tapatio to get to your new amusement parkLady Otter Latté wrote:Yeah, and that is just the way it would be in Chapala because it has many similarities to Mexico City.
30 to 45 minutes...

One definition, full time JOBS that could pay local families 200,000 pesos a year with benefits.

I'm sure some enterprising Mexican would have come up with this great money-making scheme if it would work here.
And how much money would some ex-pat make in these glorious ventures?

Mexico is a free country with a capitalist system. Multinational corporations are investing billions of USD. Nissan. Ford, Sony, Heineken, Intel and hundreds of small individual immigrant investors are building up Mexico. Chapala should play up to its strengths and seek out that investment capitol. Then jobs can be created.
If local young people want a good job and a better life than their parents, it means moving away from home. Chapala is getting left behind the rest of Mexico.

Re: Amusement park in Chapala
I knew a 78 year old man who with his peers campaigned against a factory moving into a small town in Minnesota. This town was losing all its young people because the town had no work for the young and only the staid businesses of yesteryear that were unable to hire anyone. I asked him why he was against the factory. His reply was that the factory would bring people who would build houses, etc. and then in 20-30 years the factory would go broke and the town would have an empty factory with empty houses. It would be bad for the town then. He would be a 100 years old if he lived so long.
The only problem I see is Chapala will need a new place for its annual fiesta and the tennis players a new court. Bring on the progress as this is an in land project designed for for the Mexican people. It is not a play ground like the beach resorts on the coasts pulling in millions of foreigners. It is for the people living in the interior of Mexico.
If the park doesn't work for the first investors the next batch of investors will make it work and I will be too old to care.
