They do not take care of the pools now, how will they care for a much larger water venue? Publico Magico is also out of the question now.

Re: Amusement park in Chapala
We have to remember that Chapala (and Ajijic) has always been a resort destination. I agree with Trailrunner that it won't happen, or, as likely, that it will start and not finish. But it would be good for the local economy.

No, but I worked at Magic Mtn as a teenager for 4 summers. My brother did 25 years with the company, starting as a bus boy and becoming a corporate VP. My 21 year old nephew is working there, now 4 years, and is an area supervisor and trainer, all while attending CSUN.
The only issue I see is the management of the facility. If run by non-professionals in the local government, it will be doomed to failure.

Re: Amusement park in Chapala
Well it seems simple to me......forget amusement parks, casinos, etc. Just clean up the lake and they will come. If they can't control what gets dumped in the Lerma then build a treatment plant at the mouth and clean the water as it comes in.

Re: Amusement park in Chapala
If this lake was clean and full of fish you would be amazed at how many more people would come here for watersports and fishing. I would be the first to invest in a fishing resort/marina.
Re: Amusement park in Chapala
Wow. How much more can our streets take. Can't get in and out of WalMart as it is !

Re: Amusement park in Chapala
Where do you build a resort or, especially, a marina on a lake with a shoreline that can migrate a mile back and forth?
Where do you park the cars for a larger attraction in Chapala?
How do the residents near the new attraction handle the traffic & noise?
Chapala is too compact for such development unless the Cultural Center was to revert to a train station with regular high speed service to Guadalajara. That worked in the past....until the great flood.

Re: Amusement park in Chapala
I would build a fishing resort/marina up near Mezcala/San Pedro where the lake is deeper and the shore line is steep. That shoreline barely moves with the seasons/years. The shoreline all around has been fairly stable for the past 10 years or so (plus/minus 200 yards).
Re: Amusement park in Chapala
OK. I thought you were suggesting in Chapala, Chapala proper, as opposed to a more rural site. There just is not much room left in Chapala; the city.

Re: Amusement park in Chapala
some great ideas . hope they come to fruition. we have the natural beauty so why not use it and publize it ? restaurnats , bars and shops hopefully can be brought into the 21st century as well..
the problem with the traffic is because there are three sets of lights in a short distance, all out of sync. at walmart no left turn when leaving, you cant cross a yellow line. maybe they can come up with an alternative as it is a widely used junction.

Re: Amusement park in Chapala
I dunno... they did a lot of Parking Expansion on the East side of Christiana Park, as well as resurfacing the Road...
I think an Amusement Park is a terrific idea... bring in a steady cash flow to the Chapala Area.
Sure did enjoy Carnival this year!! .. can you imagine Carnival for another 11 months :D

Re: Amusement park in Chapala
I don't know about 7 flags but there is a Six Flags amusement park in Mexico City, they get 2.5 million visitors a year.CanuckBob wrote:What other 7 flags style amusement parks are in Mexico? I do not know of any?
