One more reason to love lakeside Snow1611

This is the view from the balcony of my apartment in Arlington, Virginia.  It hasn't stopped snowing yet, and won't for another 8 hours.  We have 18 inches now, and will easily top two feet of snow before it ends.  DC is shut down; we can't handle two inches, let alone two feet.

To all my friends at lakeside, enjoy the warmth and sunshine.  This time next year, I'll be joining you!

Oh, man. Sorry about that. I will now stop complaining about having to put an extra blanket on the bed last night.

NoVaDamer,

I'm right there with you. We are in the southeastern VA area and have been putting up with this storm for two days now. We do not have your snow accumulations as we keep moving back and forth from snow to freezing rain to rain to freezing rain and back to snow. All our roads are covered in ice, so you really can't drive anywhere. Temps have been below freezing for two days. Going down to 23 degrees tonight which will really make the roads slick for tomorrow.

My wife and I are coming down to Ajijic for the month of Sept. Can't wait.

RoyD,
My condolences! I heard about the snow/ice mix in North Carolina and near Norfolk and I figured that was worse, if only because of the possibility of power loss. Y'all hang in there!

When I lived and worked in Park City UT two feet of snow overnight was no big deal, and I had to drive to work before the snow ploughs even got out.
I do remember that there were lots of accidents after the first snowfall,it was as if people who had lived there all their lives had forgotten how to drive in snowy conditions?? Rolling Eyes

When I was a kid in Chicago (3 to 10 years old) EVERY winter the snow was up to my knees!

I grew up in in the snow belt east of Lake Michigan, and we were used to heavy snows there, too.  Washington DC is a weird place in so many ways, but especially when it comes to winter, because there are few "locals" and those who are, aren't ready for snow.  All the rest are temporary residents who come from all over the states, and they all have different approaches to winter, so every snow fall is an adventure.  Oh, and the local governments prepare for winter road conditions like regular folks prepare for a proctology exam: avoid until it is inevitable, then just hang on and hope for the best. cheers
