New reason to NOT fly United.
Be aware of new rules at United. Size of Carry on Bag 9" by 14" by 22"
Alaska Size of Carry on Bag 10"by 17" by 24"
So that Standard size bag we all use is not good anymore for carry on.
This will be the last time I fly United. I knew I quit flying United for a reason.
Any other airlines doing this?????
This is my reward to United. Bad publicity.

Re: New reason to NOT fly United.
Spirit (my favorite hated airline) 22" L x 18" W x 10" H
American, US airways and DELTA 22" L x 14" W x 9" H (same as UNITED)
Frontier is a bit larger: 24" L x 15.5" W x 9.5" H
Southwest and Airtran are comparable: 24" L x 16" W x 10" H

Alaska
10" H x 17" W x 24" L (25 x 43 x 61 cm), plus one personal item, such as a purse, briefcase or laptop computer.

Re: New reason to NOT fly United.
Frontier I understand as they fly smaller planes with very small carry on ability compared to 737 or A32X. OK so they want smaller luggage can't they pick the same size??? I find it fascinating all this changing when the new planes (with pull down bins instead of the doors) hold more luggage than the old type. Viva Alaska...Viva SW.

Re: New reason to NOT fly United.
Be aware Alaska International luggage policy is different for Guad and Mexico City than other (tourist) airports in Mexico. Also luggage restrictions around Xmas. Still best deal for getting the most luggage back to Mexico. Standard carry on, carry on under seat and two full sized bags for $25US per person. This means we can get back four large suitcases, two carry on for overhead and two small carry on under seat for $50US extra for two seats. Good deal!
Don't care going north as suitcases are put in suitcases empty.

Re: New reason to NOT fly United.
If bringing back excess baggage this summer be sure to check with your airline. Some airlines have embargoes during the summer and Christmas holidays. NO boxes, which include plastic tubs and no more than 2 bags, even if you are willing to pay. This is on American into GDL, but other airlines may have similar rules. Check to be sure

Just flew United, stateside and back, and they were not enforcing the smaller carry-on rules on any of the flights.

Can't say the same. Flew last week and new suitcase testers are in use with a person watching. Its 100USD if your bag is too big.
Here are the latest sizes for most airlines.
SW 24 16 10
Jet B. 24 16 10
Alaska 24 17 10
United American USair Cont. and Delta use new smaller bag.
22 14 9
Also when purchasing bags be careful many bags measurements don't include the wheels. I found my new 20 inch bag to be 22 with wheels
and the airlines do count the wheels. Take a tape measure with you as many bags that say airlines friendly are not. Also many bags don't have the needed info. They just say 20 inch for example. Found the new bag size to be very hard to find in affordable price. Found one bag at Ross dress for less and one in Marshalls. I found the name pilot bag seems to be the right size. Many bags were 9.5 inches which is a half an inch too large and they care about the half inch. Lots of talk up here over new rules which are just being enforced now. Start shopping early as only other bags I found were all over $200US. Paid 60 for one and 100 for another.
Good Luck dealing with this folks also my experience with United this time met my expectations of being terrible which is another story. I would be embarrassed to be a United employee.
