Utilities and moving
Anyone know what CFE and SIMAPA require to change service into another person's name. I am making a move locally and need to change the services into the new occupants name and out of mine, but have not done it here before and do not know the procedure.

Hola!
SIMAPA must always remain in the name of the registered owner of the property.
For CFE, depending on who is on duty and what mood they are in will require the following:
Copy of Rental Contract or Contract to Purchase (not always required but is often requested)
Copies of passports or IFEs of both parties
Printed picture of the meter taken on same day
You will then have to pay any outstanding amount owed for electricity consumption. None will be owed if your deposit covers it.
*In Joco, they will require a copy of the predial
They then should give you a printed sheet with the new name, a new account number (RPU), and it should show current debt as $0. It will also show how much deposit will be charged to the new account holder on the next bill. That with the printed receipt from your payment of the outstanding balance is proof that the name change was made and that there is nothing owed.

Re: Utilities and moving
I own 2 lots with two meters and put the "lot" not the house in a neighbors name because it helped her get credit. ID from both, old bill and 150 pesos.
Don't think owning makes a difference because I've never proven to CFE who the owner is

Re: Utilities and moving
If you are renting a house and the CFE bill is in the name of the former renter is there any problem with just leaving it that way? My previous rentals had CFE in the name of the owners so I have never had an account with CFE as I do with Telmex.
