Cost, reliability of Telcel vs Infinitum internet? For PCs east of Chapala
Anybody out there using Telcel USB modems for their PCs' internet? If so, can you weigh in on the cost and the speed / reliability?
How much does Infinitum internet cost? And how reliable / speedy is it?
As I think most of you know by now :-) we are on a ridgeline just east of Chapala. We had HughesNet, graduated to Spiderweb which was great for the first year but now is terribly slow most of the time. We are waiting for Infinitum service out our way, don't have it yet but we do have a Telmex phone so I am thinking of going down to the Telmex engineers and BEGGING for an Infinitum port to be opened for us.
But, maybe it would be better to go to a Telcel USB modem? They have 1 high usage 30 day plan for 399 pesos. http://www.internet.telcel.com/paquetes.html#tab1
Any and all input welcome.

#$@%@#$%#@ !! Figures - they post stuff on their web page that looks oh so neat, and then the reality is elsewise. Altho, I gotta say, I've found the folks at the Telcel store in Centro Laguna to be really dumb, no other way to say it. They dress nice and speak English, but techies they ain't.
Maybe I'll print out the page with their wireless router info and take it with me.
http://www.internet.telcel.com/computadoras.html#tab2 My Spanish is definitely not up to this challenge, I learned Spanish back in the dinosaur era before PCs and networks existed. So, I'll have to talk to Telcel folks who speak English.

I've had a Telcel USB modem for years because Telmex does not want to service our community ..... so we are CEL only including phone.
I use the Internet a lot so have a 10gig contract that costs 625 pesos a month. I would much rather have Telmex with no online or download restrictions for a little less than 400 pesos a month. I bought my last modem at OXXO but still use the SIM from my contract

Thanks, Sparks - the Telcel web page does not mention restrictions. I remember we had very strict restrictions on HughesNet. Can you advise the general parameters of the Telcel restrictions?
Oh and BTW - Spiderweb (at 200 p per month) is behaving its self today. Not for anything as luxurious as streaming video but doing fine on email and web pages. Haven't tried to email an attachment lately tho.

It's all based on GIG's used so you really have to watch your use of Youtube.
Speed goes up and down a lot
