Dog's in restaurants.

Have you seen the couple going to restaurant with their parrots with his little shit basket..how about that for gross.

I'm with Spencer about dogs / kids / smokers.  We find ourselves frequenting restaurants less and less, eating at home is so nice and quiet.  And our cats have given up buggin' us for table food.  Altho, I've been lobbying for years to allow one or two of my horses in the living room but the hubby draws the line at that.  Geeze.

I have taken a dog with me when on the road and will not leave it in the car to die of heat stroke. Other than that, I'd rather leave them home. Oh, I did take one once when it was not possible to leave it behind, this was a very tiny dog which bothered no one.

We used to take our Yorkies with us to El Jardin in Ajijc and sit outside. They are quite and well behaved. Just sit in our laps while we eat. The only time they ever became agitated was when an old gringo transvestite came up to them to visit. That made them nervous but they did not bark or bother anyone.

We take them occasionally to restaurants with outside seating and they always sit in our laps mainly because we don´t want them to pick up any food off the floor or be harassed by other dogs. We´ve traveled throughout Mexico with them and have never had a problem as long as we sat outside.

On a related subject--please don't take your dog into Superlake and put it in the grocery cart. I don't want crumbs of dog poop on my food.

I brought my dog with me ONCE to Salvador's for lunch when we first moved here. My Corgi is a handsome devil, and he pulled to the very end of his leash to stand by another table. He told the ladies I only fed him 3 or 4 times a week and yes, he was feeling a little weak from hunger. And yes, he loved French fries. Then he proceeded to do cookie dances for fries. I was mortified, and have never taken him to a restaurant since.

It's so apples and oranges. It all depends on the size of the dog and it's manners. I'd prefer to not have a Rottweiler challenging me for my food...but a quiet little guy on someone's lap? No problem. Smokers and loud kids....or adults....whole 'nother deal.

Depends on Dog. Probably animals don't belong in resturants as a rule but I don't give a shit as long as they are civilized. So like most things in life it depends.

Disrespectful is disrespectful whether it is your dog, your kids, your cigarettes or your loud voice bothering others in restaurants. Some seem to be oblivious to their actions and others just don't give a crap.

I should have mentioned that I am happy to have both dogs and cats in restaurants--not on the table--but on a chair or the floor. I have had wonderful dinners next to both, whether they came with the patron, or with the owner, or just happened to wander in. Just keep naked butts out of my grocery cart.

On the "naked butt" matter:  Unless your pup is wearing pants, keep it off the chair I'm going to be sitting in.  PLEASE.

Espiritu called it right: A dog is a dog. There is a list of eateries that allow them on TOB. Why not just go to them?

So far, I haven't encountered a nice, considerate person with a mean dog. For one thing, said person wouldn't be willing to feed and care for said mean dog. Conversely, I can't recall seeing a nice dog with a mean spirited owner. Could happen, though.

Unfortunately mean owner/nice dog happens all too often. No matter what the MF does to it... they forgive. It's heart breaking.... and best not happen in my presence. Actually is has happened in my presence... and I blew it off..... to avoid suspicion... and when given the chance the dogs have gone to much happier circumstances.

I'll now  make the terrible, tasteless joke:  We used to have a real stray dog problem in our neighborhood until the Vietnamese moved in.  They wokked the dogs.
And apparently in China, they have dogs in restaurants.

On any given day skinned dogs can be found hanging in most meat markets in South Korea, no big and no stray dog problem. On a more disgusting note: A friend who was the director of the local humane society in north San Diego County told me they froze the carcasses of the dogs they euthanized and sold them to the cosmetic industries in Japan. Unlike the U.S Japan allows the dogs to be rendered and their fat used in the manufacturing cosmetics/lipstick. (I hope the guy was jiving me but I don't think so.)
