Dog's in restaurants.
Why do a small group of people insist on bringing their mutts to dining establishments. They are a distraction, jump on people and likely are full of fleas. by they I mean the animals.

Congratulations..........you are among the 10,000 posters who so far have been going round and round on this issue for as long as these local web boards probably have existed.
The dog people feel free to bring their pets with them to lunch. Why? because they feel entitled.
The restaurant owners are hesitant to have to say "no" to a customer. In other words, they feel intimidated.
The customers who want to dine with people, and not with dogs, are annoyed. Can't very well blame them, especially when the owner doesn't keep them under control.
The law says you can't have dogs in places where food is served.
And nothing ever, ever changes. The beat goes on. Oh, and NOBODY'S dog ever has fleas, dont'cha know?

I believe the law says that you can't have animals in a restaurant "in the area where food is prepared".

Re: Dog's in restaurants.
I remember a place in Playa Del Carmen .... big place, sand floor...
We were enjoying terrific seafood platters... a kitty was under the table rubbing legs, being super friendly.
These two old broads watched as I fed my new kitty friend...
They just sat there and sneered at us, showing their obvious disapproval feeding this poor feline.
I just ignored them.... best to ignore people like that...
Some time later... the nastiest odor imaginable wafted our way...
Our little kitty friend was burying something under the nasty ole broad's table.
Karma folks... that, and animals can sense hostility

In the Pet section of TOB there is a list of "Dog friendly" restaurants. You could read the list and avoid those restaurants I guess.

This is true, they are not allowed in the kitchen but are OK everywhere else. It appears that only north Americans are bothered by this as dogs are pretty much OK in restaurants all over the world. It certainly is not an issue with Mexicans and it is not up to us to tell them how they should run their restaurants, their country or their lives. Personally, it is very rare I have a dog with me as I do not wish to be bothered by them and I feel the dogs are happier at home and not in public places.

I rarely see Mexicans bringing dogs into the restaurants. I have taken my dogs into restaurants that have outdoor patios however I would never consider letting them off leash to bother others.

How many dog owners that bring their pets complain about smokers there?

It's a little easier to ignore a (well behaved) dog than the second hand smoke. Fleas are a problem, though. Most dogs are social enough to be friendly with other dogs, some of whom have only a "street" pedigree and like to share their fleas.
While you're here........what exactly, is the law about dogs in restaurants? Some people are saying it's all good as long as they aren't in the kitchen. I thought it applied to the enclosed dining areas next to the kitchen as well.

There's quite a few disgusting stories, and you needn't travel far to experience them. How about a nice semi-open air place in Ajijic with 2 lunching ladies and a large dog on one of those extendable leashes wandering around the adjacent tables. There was one narrow aisle and said dog vomited copiously on it. The lady summoned the waiter and requested that he clean it up.
That's really disgusting.

Re: Dog's in restaurants.
Maybe a little irony...
When explaining to friends some of the things, differences, I found intriguing about Mexico ... I counted people taking their dogs into restaurants.
I enjoyed the change, it was kind of refreshing.
Never really cared one way or the other.
People's screaming brats piss me off a lot more. There outta be a law ....

Re: Dog's in restaurants.
Actually I rarely see Mexicans bringing their dogs in restaurants. A few time I have seen tiny chihuahuas in restaurants with some young woman but that is it.
Foreigners are the ones who feel they can bring dogs to the restaurants not the Mexicans.
I agree screeming brats are the worst .

The few small taco stands that garnered that reputation, soon went out of business.CanuckBob wrote:

I can't remember the last time, or if ever, I have seen a dog in a restaurant in Guadalajara, and I have and do eat there a lot. I thought that was a NOB thing. The working class people, white collar, blue collar, no collar, are not going to go home and get a dog before eating comida in the afternoon. The late evening crowd, when Tapatios eat out, are not going to want to be encumbered by a dog.
I think it's an old gringo thing of nothing better to do and of wanting the company of their pets when they enjoy the highlight of their day.
Mexicans are too busy for such silliness.

Re: Dog's in restaurants.
If the dog(s) is/are well trained and behaved, let them be, if they are bothering other people and not under control of their human, advise the owner/manager and ask him/her to handle it. If it isn't handled in a satisfactory manner, let the manager know you will not be returning.
This seems a fair balance to me.

The dog becomes a grandchild substitute in some cases. Easy to spot.
IMHO, it seems a bit odd that people can't leave their pets at home instead of bringing them into an environment where their sensitive noses are going to be assaulted by food smells. This is doing the pup a favor??

Some people and I'm talking about 99.9 percent of people who bitch, will bitch about everything and anything because they can. They do not know how or care, about making someone, somewhere mad. That is all that is important to them. It makes them happy. .
