What to do with my old Jeep
I have an old, beat up Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.9 Ltd. that just won't die. I've had it since it was brand new. I've driven it to the States and back again many many times. My problem is that I just don't know what to do with it since it refuses to die.
I'd like to keep it in the Chapala area for when I'm here, but I currently have a remote client in the States so I have to spend a lot of time there. If I leave it, the battery will just die and parts will stop working and I'll never have it when I need it.
I'm thinking of some sharing arrangement where I keep it there, nationalize it, someone uses it, and when I am there I get to use it at least part of the time.
I don't know what this would look like, whether it's a sale, rental, co-ownership, borrow or barter. Should I rent it along with my house? If they already have a car, they wouldn't need this too.
If you have any ideas, I'm sure you will let me know. If it's "donate it to charity" that's fine, I can do that too.
TIA,
Merry

rent it with the house. as far as the battery goes,no big deal. i just had mine charged because the truck was sitting in the impound since march 26 and it cost me a whole $100p. my mechanic is up the hill from soriana but he came to mi casa, got the battery and brought it back after charging it.

Car batteries like being maintained in a charged state and not left to discharge. Hooking up a float charger like this one will keep it healthy.

My concern with sharing my vehicle would be the liability. I hope you find a suitable solution.

Sell the car or store it. Get it charged if needed. Rent what you need wherever you need it, or live the walk, bus and taxi life. The liability involved in renting the car to someone is mind boggling.

We store a car here and use it occasionally throughout the year. We do have to charge the battery if we go too many months. Tires need to be watched. Other than that its fine.

Re: What to do with my old Jeep
I would store the Jeep. Your temporary importation prohibits selling it and renting it would require lots of paperwork, INM permission to work, RFC, facturas, etc.; making it a liability in more than just the insurance factor. Nationalization is not a viable option.
Otherwise, take it north one last time and replace it with a Jalisco plated car.

just charge the battery when you need it again, and ferget what i said about renting it out. a guy named hank can put some special stough in yer tires so they don't leak.

Thanks for all the ideas! I still feel as murky as ever on what to do though.

Are you here on a visa or a tourist permit? That will determine what you must do, or what you may do.

Pedro, you are right if all the answers that will ever appear here, have already appeared.

Update: I sold the Jeep this week, it was time to let it go. A young couple bought it who were just ecstatic about it. Thanks for all the ideas!
