Just for you, Slainte, I looked it up. According to Informador, La ley seca goes into effect at 12:01 a.m. on Saturday and ends at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday.

Re: No liquor on Sunday?
Election Sunday, 1998, I go to my usual carne asadas in GDL. I order a beer with my steak as usual. It comes in a black ceramic mug, Ok, tastes good. I look around and all the local are drinking Coca Cola??? I ask what is happening? Waitress says " Ley Seca".
They didn't want to refuse the "Gringo del Barrio" (That is the way Mexicans are, hate to say no) They didn't want to advertise that they were serving me.
Never put them on the spot again!

So I guess bringing your own bottle to a restaraunt Sat night is against the law?

Definitely leave your IFE/INE card at home as that is indisputable evidence you are breaking the law.

Re: No liquor on Sunday?
Solution for dummies:
Buy enough booze for the weekend now. Send out for pizza. Eat and drink ta' home.
Last night, those speakers at the plaza were so loud that I was almost convinced the party was next door. And talk? Wow. Those politicos are something else.

It appears the hospitality industry has a nice lobby in Guadalajara and nothing in Chapala
