Canned cat food
Can anyone recommend a place near downtown Chapala that sells moderately-priced canned cat food? Would prefer to find it closer than Soriana, but we can do that if necessary.

Dr Eric's pet food and supply store, a few doors north of the intersection of Madero and Lopez Cotilla (northwest corner of the Plaza), on the east side of the street (Madero)?
Maybe?

Re: Canned cat food
We bought a couple of cans from Dr. Eric today but they were quite expensive. The cats, unfortunately, love them. :-)

What about at the cow vet store about 1/2 block from the plaza.

Re: Canned cat food
that is owned by doctor eric now. we get all our dog food from him[he delivers it] and don't mind if it's a little more expensive as he feeds and treats all those strays around the mercado. those two big dogs laying on his floor are street dogs. his vet fees are extremely reasonable and he has come to our house as late as 11pm and early as 8am.Hensley wrote:What about at the cow vet store about 1/2 block from the plaza.

What I have found is that the good quality foods are the ones available at pet food stores and the less expensive, not quite so good varieties are available at places like Soriana. There is a mid-sized grocery on the west side of Madero near the car wash. They might carry cat food - I've never looked.

Ditto on your post above this post about Dr. Eric....a real asset to the community.
Now about the cow....last seen grazing on the east side of 285-A Hidalgo.

Re: Canned cat food
Thanks, All, for your help. We ended up at the clinic where the cats are cared for in big pens (name?) and got reasonably-priced food there, in bulk. It would have been a very long drive, but our landlord took us shopping out that way on his rounds.
It's wonderful to hear about the vets around here... as it happens, we met Dr. Eric and one of the associates at the Ladrons on the same day, and were impressed all-round.
And let me just say: we are SO happy to be here at last! :-)

Grain Free Cat Food: Canned and Dry
Hi Everyone!
We are finally planning our move to Lake Chapala, to arrive around the end of August. Can't wait!
We are bringing our cats and we try to feed them high quality food (mostly canned and some dry).
Does Dr Eric have high quality grain free canned and dry cat food? Wellness Minced Turkey would make our cats so very happy!
Just wondering if there are any large pet stores in Guadalajara that would carry the best quality cat foods?
Thanks for your help on this!
Myrna

Re: Canned cat food
Hi, Myrna ---
Don't know about Guadalajara, so an older hand will need to respond to that.
Dr. Eric has a limited selection of very high-grade and expensive tinned foods (several that are specifically for sick or struggling cats), and a variety of good-quality dry foods. The shelter over in San Antonio has a much larger, less-expensive selection and we can check today about the availability of grain-free (we'll be over there anyway). Soriana has a selection midway between the two in price, variety, and quality. Will post back later with more info.

Re: Canned cat food
The pet store/vet/groomer next door to Soriana has a selection of quality pet foods. Don't know how the prices compare to others. Dr. Daniel also has a clinic in Guadalajara and will bring special orders to his Chapala outlet. They also do home visits and deliveries. Dr. Daniel also cares for street animals and volunteers at the spay/neuter clinics where he is known for his excellent surgical technique. He is also kind and gentle. My generally suspicious former street dog loves him. Licks his face and leans her head on his chest AFTER he examines her.
To newcomers and prospective residents: I have used several area vets over the years depending on where I was living and what the problem was. All of them were good to excellent. The Lake Chapala area is blessed with excellent and caring vets.

Re: Canned cat food
Best selection and prices are at the Animal Shelter, A.C., which is next to Dr. Ladron's Clinic. In Guadalaljara thie is Pest Smart on Lopez Mateo.
