I live in the Haciendas
Clueless, we live in Chapala Haciendas. Santiago dogs killed their pet goat. We bought a replacement with our contractors help. They loved her and rejected Santiagos goat.....we were trying to make peace in the hood. Hopefully it is not his dogs. Jim W

Forgot to mention Bob, We had Luciano tie her to a tree in our backyard. He brought them up to our home, served cervesa, they heard her in the backyard.......from there all was fun. She only cost 700 pesos......the older man was in tears. Luciano was our interpreter, and he is a great contractor. We are all very lucky when 700 pesos means little, yet this gift to the family makes a huge difference. We have alot more photos, however, it's about them. Funny thing is we don't even know their names......

Re: I live in the Haciendas
Oh, Jim! Those photos are so beautiful. Don't know if you were aware
we have pet goats, also. Four years ago, our white goat was attacked
by 4 roaming dogs( they had clawed their way under our cyclon fence)
When we heard what was going on , Barry and I ran to help our goat,
(Barry forgot and turned loose of the leash on Alemando, our very
protective German Shepard. I will only say that 3 of the 4 dogs ran away
and we had to bury the 4th dog- Alemando killed him. Our white goat
did not survive- which is what brought tears of joy to me- seeing that
wonderful smile on the gentlemans face- and a reminder of our very
special G.B.(our beloved white goat). We still take our goats for a walk
everyday- the neighbors have gotten used to seeing 2 crazy gringos walking
their goats- but always with our protective german shepard walking with us.
Thank you for sharing these photos!
P.S. We had to put concrete all along the cyclone fence- no more clawing their way under. It was the only way I could sleep at night- since our goats are
2 lots over.

Re: I live in the Haciendas
Alemando deserves a whole basket of doggy cookies! To not get excited and join in with the others, takes a really special dog.
I have one I think would behave the same way... unfortunately he's a 25 pound Llasa Apso. Wookie won't put up with violence of any kind.... of course his huge heart and sense of responsibility will probably get his courageous little doggy butt trounced one day...but only over his mama's dead body.
You did good Jim.

kipissippi-Had to chuckle when you said he deserves a treat! He sure did
receive a large chew bone that week! He is of the attitude IF HE is
not allowed to harass mama's goats, then NO ONE IS! It took some
training for him not to want to chase them, but now he considers them
part of his domain to protect. Thank God.

Re: I live in the Haciendas
Our horses are like that. Years ago dogs chased them when they had foals. They're now a well organized team. Dogs who don't catch on fast that they are no longer the hunter...don't survive. Our motley crew, on the other hand, can roam wherever they want with no problem... they're family. And they call them dumb animals...... NOT!!!

Not to divert the topic but... At 700 pesos or $45.00 U.S would our futbol team like a mascot for their games? That might be fun and if they have a losing season they could eat him.

Haha, I was thinking Lucky, but with all the talent on this board I'll kick in a 100 peso prize just for the laughs and to see who comes up with the best name.

Re: I live in the Haciendas
Funny, there's a goat in the vacant lot across the street from my Spanish school and I've been calling her "birria" ever since she arrived several months ago. I'll throw chivito into the mix as a possible name for the team mascot.
