Disposal of Vehicle
Hi all!
I've been lurking around here for several months but this is my first post. I've been thinking about visiting Lakeside for a while now with a view to possibly moving there. Truthfully, I doubt it will ever happen, but I find researching it quite interesting. This board in particular is full of information and helpful people.
I'm wondering what my options would be for getting rid of a Hyundai Elantra (VIN starts with a "K" which I assume means it was manufactured in Korea) after my Residente Temporal ended and I became Residente Permanente. I'm from Nova Scotia Canada and my current understanding is that I would have to drive or ship it to Canada. Is there any other option? Is it possible to sell it for scrap?
Thanks in advance for any responses.

Selling for scrap would not be legal however I have heard of nobody getting caught as of yet but that doesn´t mean you will not be the first. Why not sell for a rock bottom price to Canadians who will drive it home in March or April and then you do it 100% legally and have zero problems and maybe will get a bit extra?

And you would have to trust that they do actually scrap it and not drive it around as a "chocolate".
Re: Disposal of Vehicle
I hadn't thought of that Spencer. That could work. CB, I had assumed if there was a legal way of scrapping it there would be some sort of documentation. However, if it's not legal, then I guess there is a lot of room for problems to develop.

Yep and if they drove it around you would still be liable for anything that happens with the car.
Re: Disposal of Vehicle
By the time your Temporal runs out there will be both Hyundai and Kia assembly plants in Mexico. That changes everything. You could probably trade in for a new, or slightly used, Korean (assembled in Mexico) vehicle.

Yes, it had occurred to me that this would only be several years in the future, so a "worry about it then" attitude might be the way to go.

That attitude is so necessary here. That and the "Gallic Shrug" and the "Oy Vey"!
