We are arriving Lakeside in two weeks for our first extended stay there. One of my first priorities is to get a SIM card for my unlocked Samsung phone. Where can I get one? I have checked out telcel and they seem to have a good pay as you go plan. Is there a local competitor to them that is better? Thanks.

No, Telcel is the one.  There are many outlets.  Among the best is a little store down the street next to Farmacia Cristiana, neae the El Torito grocery store.  English spoke, great service.

There is Movistar, better rates at times and credit lasts 90 days.

Thanks. I don't remember were the El Torito store is. We will be staying about a block from Adelita's, east of Walmart. Is it nearby?

El Torito's is on the caraterra (south side) in Ajijic just west of La Floresta (where all the big trees line the street). It's about 1 1/2 km's west of Walmart. If you are familiar with the Wednesday Tianguis in Ajijic it is right there.

There is a Telcel store in the Centro Laguna Mall - the "new" mall opposite Walmart. They speak English and can fix you up with whatever you need?
