Lumber yard nearby?
I need a sheet of 1/4" plywood. Does anyone know if there is a lumber yard in the area?
Re: Lumber yard nearby?
On Madero in Chapala across from Soriana, on lateral.

Re: Lumber yard nearby?
i have only seen solid lumber there but maybe they store plywood in the back. in any event, they probably know where to get it. there was a store in west ajijic on the lakeside lateral that i got some from years ago but i forget where it is exactly. they just had plywood.dcampbell757 wrote:On Madero in Chapala across from Soriana, on lateral.

The phone number for this place, Madereria Real Ortega, is 765-7556. So if you want to phone and ask, ask for "una lamina de madera contrachapada de cuarta pulgada".
How's that for a Spanish lesson of the day. lol.
If you end up driving there since the lateral is now one way coming back towards Chapala, make the left turn off the highway that is just past the Pemex, go one block to the tianguis street, turn right for two blocks, right again and back to the lateral, and the place will be on your right a little ways down.

Thanks for the info on the lateral direction change. And yes they have sheet goods in side past the office and thru the door on the right, then past that room are all the huge beams and lots of foam/concrete mouldings. It is one of my favorite places.
Althoughyou are going for sheet goods everyone should know that if you ask them for dimensional lumber it is very important to make sure they give you exactly what you need and not "americanize" the measurements. Many times over the years I have asked for something and it is off...most recently we needed a actual 2 x 4 and it was all sorts of trouble.

maderería - with the accented í for the language purist in all of us.
It might be also worth to mention, that if you come in from the libramiento into Chapala that there is an exit to the lateral at the point where the Soriana parking lot is to your left and the lumberyard is just past there.

Try instead "triplay o multiplay de 5mm". Thicker pieces are sometimes lumber core and known as "liston".

If you just need one sheet, the carpenter at the corner of Galeana and Constitución will get it for you and cut it to size. You'll no doubt pay a bit more, but it's convenient. And he's a great guy.
I've also gone to the maderería across from Soriana. Got exactly what I wanted, though I can't remember now what it was. jaja.

Bob:
Both stores carry plywood. Real Ortega will cut it to size but Monreal in West Ajijic cannot. They can maybe have it cut at their main store in Joco. Monreal is on the lateral opposite the Waffle house mas o menos. Monreal is also a little less expensive (most of the time)

Bob I have all manner of power woodsaws if you need to use one to cut the plywood.
I think your best bet is the place across from Soriana.

I don't think that anyone mentioned that the owner at Real Ortega speaks English ... which helps.

You can get by with Spanglish at Monreal.

Re: Lumber yard nearby?
Also, not mentioned here is that they have nice quality peg board.
A while back I was looking for it at Home Depot, Lopez Mateos and Patria stores, but no luck. However, what you do find at Home Depot are the pegs, hooks, etc. to be used for the peg board. It does not seem that the pegs are lakeside.
Home Depot on Lopez Mateos has plenty of pegs .... but you have to get on your hands and knees on the floor because it on a 'ad hoc' bottom shelf easily missed if you don't know what there!!
