Lumber yard in Chapala

I understand there is a lumber yard in Chapala somewhere around Soriana. Does anyone know if it is still in business and where exactly it is?

I wouldn't call it a lumber yard of the kind you're used to but it's opposite Soriana and is a pain in the butt to park. I've found it easier to use the Libramiento to get to it because at least it's on the correct side of the road. Big spooky building and hope it's not getting deliveries or you'll miss it.

It's pretty much across the highway from Soriana. Coming from the libramiento direction, you't pull off to the right at the first real street and it's just past there on your right on the lateral.

Coming from Chapala, you'd take that weird left exit just past the Pemex gas station and go across the highway... there's a little strip of tiendas all up that side, but it's legally a one-way lateral coming towards you. Lots of cars, however, just slip up until they get there. It's obvious that it's a lumber place once you see it.

It's called Ortega Real. Their entire "yard" is indoors. Go down the drive ramp and talk to the guy in the office at the first door on the right. He speaks English and is very helpful.

You may also be interested in this lumberyard in Guadalajara. Every kind of wood imaginable and properly kiln dried to the correct % humidity.

You could phone them and ask... I was hunting louvered doors for closets. The line for payment was long and impossible to ask anyone so I went wandering through the maze. A phone call usually is your best bet to ask about dimensions of what's available... and a lot of it isn't.

Just curious SunFan... is that wood kiln dried? Or will it shrink as it dries?

Back home in Ottawa, I used strictly pressure-treated wood for outdoor stuff, like my deck. However, it might just be that PT wood is KD first. I don't know. Never really looked into it.

Not sure. I would doubt it but the 2X4s and 1X2's I got were pretty straight.

The 1X2s were good enough to make stretchers for my wife's canvasses.

The problem they are having with pressure treated wood now is that new growth lumber is vastly inferior to old growth. The white part of the growth ring is significantly weaker in new growth. Yet old growth is getting harder and harder to come by.
