Much as I love this report, I notice that it was written by a real estate person in the PV area.

It's hard for me to believe the kidnapping rates of Canada vs Mexico that they're claiming in that article, but then again you have to consider the source.

It is absolutely insane to claim that Sweden and Switzerland have higher murder rates than Mexico.

It is silly to compare violent crime statistics from Mexico with the U.S. as the under reporting here is so great.

Having said that, we find that relatively simple security precautions have worked very well for us over the last 6 years and we don't feel at all insecure here.

Articles like this that are unrealistic are just as harmful for us, as the US State Department's goofy warnings about how unsafe it is to travel in Mexico. There is risk wherever you go. If you are stupid and assume there is no risk you are at risk wherever you are. When I got tired of all of the questions about how afraid I was to move to Mexico I started telling people that if I made it through Memphis I was good. I retired as a prosecutor from Nashville, TN and we were "at risk" when we walked down the street after dark. Statistics can be manipulated anyway one wants.

Now tell me which country's citizens are more at risk of being murdered.

How safe is Mexico? Empty Re: How safe is Mexico?

Oranges versus apples comparison, oranges are found in exotic areas while apples are found almost everywhere.   Mexico's violence is segregated around smaller areas, related to the narco-trade of drugs going to America, and gun-running from the USA, while violence is widespread across US cities in general.

The US mass shootings and school shootings, like the Boston Marathon Bombing,  affect ordinary people versus Mexico's narco-on-narco violence that is mostly isolated to known areas.

The point of the article is that the risks for violence against Americans and Canadians living in Mexico are lower than their risks of violence back home.

As you scanned the list of US school shootings,  did you have any idea that there had been so many in just the last 4 years?

And who reports the numbers? How do they report? How do they define what they report? I promise you the numbers are not what they seem to be, anywhere.

The point of the article is more likely about selling real estate and if you want to buy their manipulated statistics that's your business.
As far as violence in Mexico being restricted to small areas, that's pure nonsense.

snowyco you see to underplay violence in family, violence against women and children in Mexico which is awful.
So in Mexico you have mass killing for money or territory while in the US you have mass killings because there is easy acces to guns that should be restricted to the military and the mentally ill have access to these weapons...so have your pick.

In the US you feel threaten because it is random violence when in Mexico it is usually violence on other Mexicans for money or drugs so you are not as concerned?

One thing is certain: Guns and violence are destroying civil society on both sides of the border. Is this the legacy we want to leave to our children and grandchildren?

To show that the original post had absolutely no validity, and that the subsequent post was totally worthless.

While I basically agree. Something different with guns nowadays.  We took rifles shotguns handguns to school and never killed anyone that I
heard of. I remember going out to the car with some teachers and showing them my new rifle.  I never worried about a Cowboy on a horse with a sidearm. I do worry about the kid with a Glock in his pants nowadays as he shoots his toes off. The teachers always told us that if we
fight make sure it is with our fists cause if they saw a knife or gun they would have us shot and we believed them.

In the US, killings are done by a single crazy person with access to a weapon.  In Mexico, the killings are done by organized criminals who do not worry about any recriminations from the government.

There are too many mass killings in the US, many in schools.  Which do you feel is the bigger issue, mental health problems or availability of guns?  How would any imposed law reduce the guns already legally acquired?  Without gun availability would there be more suicide bombers?  The bombers at the Boston marathon did not use guns but did considerable damage.  Even if you repealed the 2nd amendment guns would be plentiful for 100 years.  This is a difficult problem needing more than knee jerk reactions and naive assumptions.
