Re: Lake Chapala Crime Website
I made an assumption from your previous post:
"Lady,I find your efforts to further censor what other posters post, usually posters you don't happen to agree with, somewhat offensive."
Since it was an assumption that you favored no censorship on the web board, I should not have included your name. I am sorry.

I never said that there should be no censorship, sometimes it's warranted,IMO.

Reading all the posts is impossible so having members PM abuse is appreciated. As to solutions for perceived problems, bring 'em on, they will be considered.

More interest in the second topic than in the first?

Re: Lake Chapala Crime Website
Gah, it makes me crazy to see three pages of replies and read through them all to find that only the first five or so have anything to do with the topic and the rest are off-topic philosophical ramblings or "witty" repartee.
Back to the topic of crime reporting ... after about six months of following the crime reports I realized that they were making me totally paranoid without making me any safer.
Just because a burglar hits in Riberas doesn't mean he'll ever come to my neck of the woods, and if there are several burglaries in an area, then (as CanuckBob pointed out) word gets around to the residents of that area.
Out of curiosity I once looked up the crime reports in my Sacramento, California neighborhood that was generally considered to be one of the safest in the city. There had been something like 16 burglaries in my immediate area that month alone.
Things happen. I think we all have enough common sense to take reasonable precautions of securing our homes and watching out for ourselves in public, but we also know there's no way to be completely safe, ever. I find I'm much happier when I DON'T read the crime reports and just go about my life using common sense.
Does anyone else think that watching crime reports decreases quality of life for no good reason?

Certainly .... but you have to admit you were not a balanced moderator on that board. Since it was still partially mine at the time (I think) I took personal offense.
You make a great conversation starter but not a moderator
Re: Lake Chapala Crime Website
Yes, Sambrit, back on the topic of crime reporting: it is too easy for people to become obsessed with crime. I do think reading crime reports can contribute to that.
Like you, I take reasonable precautions, remain aware of my surroundings and enjoy my life. Perhaps it helps that I came from a part of Southern California where my personal safety was in more jeopardy than it ever has been here. I learned then to take precautions and watch out for myself. I do the same now.

Gee, when I worked in Southern California in the 60's near the airport, I never considered it to be a high risk area. Times have changed.

I don´t know anywhere that has not changed since the 60s.
Lakeside is very different than it was 50 years ago too.

As a tail gunner on a bread truck, I felt pretty safe.

Then, actually, the airport area is probably safer now!

Many people can be moderators and do a good job and also have a different personality when they post for themselves. All you have to do is be fair.

Lake Chapala Crime website - the owner moved back to the US - needs surgery and other health problems so probably won't be returning. Not sure.

Since the moderators are also posters, some with a biting tongue, who will moderate them?

Re: Lake Chapala Crime Website
That's a fair question Oso. CBob and I had a meeting of the minds this morning, took an oath and will also mod each other. Being human is a challenge but it's all we got and we pledge to do our best. Our community is worth the effort and we don't ask for much. In a perfect world we wouldn't need to moderate and that would please us more than you might ever guess.
