Re: Lake Chapala Crime Website
It is not surprising. They didn't have "crime reporting sites" anywhere I ever lived up north so why do we need one here. Most petty crimes (B&E, robbery, assault, etc.) up north didn't get publicized either unless it was particularly unusual or some sort of crime spree. Most occurrences that require a warning to others, around here, get posted on these web boards or passed along through the grapevine.

¿Then how would you make an insurance claim without reporting a crime, or accident?

Re: Lake Chapala Crime Website
Really Arbon......you think a civilian "crime reporting" website has anything to do with police reports and insurance claims????
Re: Lake Chapala Crime Website
so now the only place to read about local crime is on this board. the c word is not allowed on the tob, as all is well in their world. Please move the templarios thread to the octagon, its gone on way too long, very few participants, and gets a bit personal..

I tend to agree with you. I'll give it some thought.
BTW.....most of the local crime probably isn't worth reading about. The big stuff gets put in the newspapers and radio just like NOB although I can't vouch for the accuracy of the reports.
Re: Lake Chapala Crime Website
Please leave it where it is and instead move the posters who choose to denigrate rather than debate.

Re: Lake Chapala Crime Website
I thought we had this discussion a while back? Do not move a thread to the Octagon because some posters can not express disagreement without insulting and name calling. If posters consistently violate the rules, don´t reward them by moving the thread to the Octagon where they can cuss and insult even more.

Re: Lake Chapala Crime Website
I probably need to get a totally impartial, unbiased, anonymous moderator who has the time to read every single thread and enforce the rules to the letter. I know I don't have time for that. There is a lot of stuff that I don't even see unless someone points it out.
Any volunteers can send me a PM.......

"Community" in Seattle and Vancouver does not exist anymore, We have lived in three communities since leaving Vancouver only one since the internet started.

That depends on how old it is and what it was about. Most times it gets deleted.
You applying for the job???

Don't you have to announce an open season for campaigning? Political party affiliation must be revealed!

IMO the current moderators are doing just fine.
Please don't allow wannabe hall monitors to dictate what's allowed and what isn't on the forum.

Re: Lake Chapala Crime Website
I know people have been driven off by angry, hostile, bullying posters. I chose to stay. I am not applying for a job but I am looking for a solution to something I perceive as a problem for this board.
How often are you able to read/scan threads?
If posters were to PM you with a post or posts they believe are blatent, offensive or part of a pattern of bullying or abuse, would you take some action such as deleteing the offending posts or would we just be wasting our time?

Lady,I find your efforts to further censor what other posters post, usually posters you don't happen to agree with, somewhat offensive but I won't be sending any PMs to the moderators about them..Lady Otter Latté wrote:

Re: Lake Chapala Crime Website
You and I disagree, Viajero, but we are not insulting and swearing at each other. It does not seem like much to ask that grownups carry on debates and conversations without insults, name calling and swearing. For those who want to do that, there is the Octagon. That is all the simple rule asked: outside of the Octagon, keep it civil. A look at the Templario thread shows that most people at least make an attempt to be civil and a few do not.
In the past, some people left this board because every time they posted anything at all, they were attacked and insulted by people who were free to do so. I do not believe that is the way most people want it, but I could be wrong.
How people are expected to conduct themselves on the board is up to the owner. There are all sorts of web boards and people find where they are comfortable. If CBob decides he wants a rough, tough, anything-goes web board the people who like it that way will come to it and those who do not will stay away.

Re: Lake Chapala Crime Website
Being a moderator is one of the most thankless jobs/duties on the Internet. A good and successful mod will never give clues as to their identity. Like a judge they should moderate according to the forum rules and use a standardized short list of reasons why they modify or delete posts and paste them in as a replacement to an offensive post. Leaving gaps or attempting to create an entire new topic out of offensive posts is a waste of time because it is just condoning the offensive behavior!
There seems to be a generational difference between those who spent half our lives being grounded with serious time spans and those who are of the timeout generation where a day or two is a big deal!
