Re: Santa Maria del Oro
We could see lots of fingerings ( looked like Bass) along the shore so there must be larger ones as well.
I was nice to see clear water again after Lago Chapala and Ague Milpa.

Is that a kayak you rented? It looks like a sit on top style. Did they have quite a few? Any other types of canoes or kayaks? It looks amazing.

Hotel lago eacondido is not a hotel anymore. Its now a private facility.
The good news is there is a new boutique resort called yemaya adventure club.

Re: Santa Maria del Oro
So if the restaurants were mostly closed, what did you do for meals?
Sounde like it would be great for a mid-week getaway.
How about WiFi for us addicts?

During the week, where do you recommend eating?
May I assume WiFi is at the hotels and most other places?
What would be the downside if we (2 of us) wanted to drive and do a DIY?
Thanks.

Re: Santa Maria del Oro
There are a couple of restaurants open during the week and some hotels even have a restaurant depending on where you stay. Yes, there is usually wifi. What is a DYI.....camping?
Re: Santa Maria del Oro
When I say DIY, that is just two of us going ourselves and not on a tour. This way, we can pick & choose when to go there and when to return, and of course, where we stay.
I was finally able to properly navigate the TripAdvisor site and was pretty surprised that, if I read them right, most of the hotels are in the (approximate) US$200+ per night.
Seems pretty steep to me.

Re: Santa Maria del Oro
I don't know how long it has been since you have been there Viajero but that place is "pretty rustic" now a days albeit it is the cheapest in the area. Those pics on the website must be from 30 years ago. We were sorely disappointed when we arrived there and had them switch our accommodation's three times. The first one they tried to put us in was a wreck.........
Re: Santa Maria del Oro
It's been several years and yes it is rustic but we enjoyed our stays there, maybe it's gone downhill since we stayed there last?

Re: Santa Maria del Oro
I suspect it is a weekend party place that is packed on the weekends and dead during the week with very little maintenance in between. It looked like it was probably really nice at one time.

So how would you rate the Koala Bungalows overall? Price? Location? Amenities (if any)?
Did you DIY or take a group trip?
