HSBC ATM RIPOFF?
I went to the ATM in HSBC across from Walmart today. I withdrew 5,000 mxn - or at least I requested 5,000. I only received 4,900 mxn. Who do I call, write or talk too? And how would I prove it? I have a machine receipt that says I received 5,000.
I wonder how often this happens. There are times, when in a rush, I don't count it. Are they counting on that? Is this a scam being perpetrated on many of us? I wonder . . .

You contact your bank immediately and advise them of the shortage. In about 2 or 3 months once they have reconciled everything between the two banks you will get your $100 pesos back.

I've been shorted twice in 6 years and got it back in about 10 days both times.

Last time I was shorted $3000 pesos at the Scotia ATM by Walmart it took 2 months to get my refund from my Scotia branch in Canada and that was after I called my manager up there and raised holey hell.

Re: HSBC ATM RIPOFF?
It's happened to me twice in 3 years. Both times I called our affiliated bank in the US and got the money back in less than 2 weeks. The time frame may depend on who your originating bank is. BTW, what recourse does one have if they receive counterfeit bills?

You have no recourse for receiving counterfeit money. If you try to pass it on you can get into a lot of trouble.

So I guess the next question is, how does one identify counterfeit bills? I see clerks hold them up a lot and look at them but I have no idea what, exactly, they are looking for.
