When a debit card expires (Bancomer etc) Do you get a new one automatically or do you have to reapply?

I am not certain but I do believe you must re-apply. The reason I say this is because due to lack of use our Bancomer debit card became inoperable. Upon questioning Bancomer they said I had to physically go to the bank to re-instate the card. The rep there said I would need to come in prior to/upon the expiration date in order to renew it.

Hope this helps.
