Capital One 360 Debit Card Empty Capital One 360 Debit Card

Post by RoyD Sat Mar 22, 2014 5:49 pm

My wife and I landed here yesterday with $20 (US) and the Capital One 360 Debit card. Went to the ATM at Guad Airport for pesos and it wouldn't accept it. Not a good situation. I called around and John K mentioned that there was a posting on this very subject on the Chapala Board. I went there and Banorte is on the same network (Allpoint) as Capital one. There was an OXXO nearby so, I walked in that direction this morning but stopped at the Farmicia Guadalajara where the ATM was Banamex but also in English as well as Spanish. I was able to get 4000 pesos from there.

For those who want the details: $4000 MX, commission fee 28.50 MX, tax 4.24 MX, total $4030.74 MX. I don't know if that is a goof deal or not, but now I have pesos.

Capital One 360 advised us via email the following information when asked if they had an arrangement with Banorte of Mexico to waive all fees.
"Please know that Capital One 360 only has a partnership with the Allpoint Network. Keep in mind, if you need to use an ATM that isn't part of the Allpoint network, ATM owners may charge you a transaction fee for using their ATMs - but Capital One 360 won't."
Allpoint has a website where you can look up available ATMs worldwide.

Do yourself a favor and walk a few steps to the Oxxo on the malecón where you can use your CapitalOne360 debit card totally for free at the Banorte machine there.  The other locations Lakeside are:  Super Lake, El Torito, Oxxo central Ajijic, and Oxxo Jocotepec.

When in Guad you can get fee free money at any Banorte bank branch or their store and Oxxo ATM's with apparently a rare exception where the ATM is privately owned according to a poster on TOB and there would be no way to distinguish this machine from the ones included in the network.  The regular Banorte machines are part of the Allpoint network even though they don't have the stickers on them yet...it's a relatively new contract with CapitalOne360.

This link allows you to look worldwide ATM's on the Allpoint network: http://www.allpointnetwork.com/atm-locators.aspx
I see that some, but not all, of the Lakeside ATM's are included, but the ones I've listed do work as I've used them all myself.
