Are there any sources here locally Ajijic/Chapala for simple interior alarm systems ie that mount on doors and window frames? Battery powered.

Yes I have found them in several hardware stores and even electric shops here. They mount on a door or window (just stick on) - two pieces, one on each side of the door or window that opens - when turned on it makes a magnetic connection. It contains a small battery and you can turn it on and off. It's small and usually white. I would try Jara's hardware store where they speak English although I've bought them in lots of stores like the stores that sell lots of house hold items on the south side of the Ajijic plaza and the one in Chapala. I have also found battery operated motion detectors but have not seen them in awhile.

A dog would serve your needs but you must make a commitment.

The last dog I had would give you the combination to the safe for a cookie and would help carry out the safe for a beer.

My dog is friendly. She is a "watch" dog, not a "guard" dog. If someone so much as walks past the house too close to the gate, she barks frantically. Many dogs do. It is their, "I see you! I see you! This is my property! Mine! MINE! Mine!" At night she sleeps in the house and would sound the alarm if someone was around. She runs on kibble and treats--no batteries.
