La BODEGA Restaurant Revirw Empty La BODEGA Restaurant Revirw

Post by johninajijic Thu Jan 13, 2011 9:24 am

Last night we ate at La Bodega restaurant with the group who submitted photos for the "Shot on the Cover Contest" for the Lake Chapala Review. There were about 16 people at our table plus others in the restaurant, a very busy night. Our Dinner group goes to La Bodega about twice a year.

We both had simple dishes: I had Fettucine Alfredo with Shrimp. The other person had Spaghetti Thai Fusion style. This is the first time we were very disapointed with the food. Not enough to eat. For cryps sake, spaghetti and macaroni products are $ 12.0 pesos a box. To put a half box or less on a plate ($.50 pesos worth) and add a few shrimp, then charge $112. pesos is greed and highway robbery. We left hungry. The service was terrible too because they're too cheap to hire another waiter for a busy night.

I didn't see Javier or Marta there when we left or I would have told them about it. I will still take our Dinner group there, but I will mention it to him next time we go.

Might as well ask you here, too, John.
Why or why would you ever go back after that???

I've heard things have gone downhill for some time. Never tried it, but I'll take your word for it.

"Last night we ate at La Bodega..."

What I find amazing is that John used the word "ate." This must be a first -- ate instead of dinned.

It was a "quite" night.

That's what happened when they handed them the check. They got "dinned".

Actually it was a cheap meal, but it still wasn't worth $184 pesos.

For 184 pesos, this cheapskate had a great steak at Laurent's, didn't leave hungry and got change, to boot! Pasta dinners should not only be tasty, they should be plentiful! Mama Mia's of the world would cry in shame if you didn't leave their tables stuffed. And smiling.

Sound the all too often tale of restaurant woe: Business isn't so good, so they lower the quality and keep up the prices. Is that the Grim Reaper I hear coming?

gringal - That's exactly how Mexican business owners think. If they're not doing enough business, they usually raise dinner prices by $10. pesos. Then people like myself and others who live on a budget just go out to eat less often and they lose more business. Someone needs to clue them in. DUH!!!

Dinned Dined

I confess -- I'm a terrible speller and a worse proofreader.

We live very near this restaurant and had hoped to use it as sort of a last-minute pop across the street sorta place when the Big Boss just didn't feel like cooking. Sadly, we've not been impressed with it as we very much like Javier and Marta personally. I think they mainly make their living running an evening dance club as opposed to a serious restaurant.

And this seems to work pretty good for them, they get some big crowds over there for dancing. Although we sometimes get a little more noise than we would like, we like it that the place puts people on the street in the evening and thereby discourages crime and tagging.
