Where were you 28 years ago today?

28 years ago today, was the day the Challenger exploded, where were you, what do you remember.

I was on my way to a music conference, in my car, I could not believe what I had heard on the radio. I had to pull over. The conference was a very somber one that year.

I was 11 and and watching it live on TV... :(

We had it on TV in my office.

Sitting, waiting for my flight out of LaGuardia Airport.

I had just wrapped up some meetings at Royal Insurance Canada, and someone came into the meeting room and told us what had happened.
I went to a pub to meet some friends for lunch and we all sat there in silence watching the TV.   

I was at work. A radio was playing music and people were talking when the broadcast was interrupted. I thought I had misheard what they said. I turned up the volume and the room went silent. After listening for a while, I returned to my office and cried.

Walking down the hall at work and saw it on the TV's as we had switched to CNN all over the factory.  Very quiet day after that. It was murder as far as I was concerned. They had no business ignoring the engineers who said too cold for the solid boosters.  I also felt sorry for the engineers who had to live with the situation after.

I was 22 and at work in a retail store. I saw it live on the TV's in the electronics department.

I was 21 and I was watching it on TV it was very sad. I cried because I had been following the story about Christa McAuliffe the teacher.

I was retired ...and not watching TV.

I was working as a loan officer in Wapakoneta, Ohio (ironically Neil Armstrong's home town) when a co-worker came back from lunch and told what happened.

High school German class. It was a while before I realized that not just the astronauts, but our entire space program, died that day.

We had lost three astronauts years earlier from having a 100% oxygen in the early Apollo capsule. They burned up on the pad in Florida.  The Russians have lost many many folks. It is an expensive endeavor human life wise but I think the Shuttle disaster didn't end the space program.  Budget problems did basically. I do get your point. It did change things.

I was at home "sick" with my older sister. We stayed home to watch some soap opera we had gotten hooked on during winter break (and had strategically stayed home once a week to find out what was going on). I was 10.

I was on vacation in Fort Myers at the time. We were sitting out on the patio and saw this weird smoke in the sky. I went inside a little later and saw the news broadcast on the TV.....totally shocked! I couldn't believe that it was visible from so far away!

I was teaching a high school American Lit class when I was called into the hall and given the news. I thought about how my history teacher broke the news of the Kennedy assassination and tried to follow her example as I told my students. I then led the class to the library so we could all watch the news on TV. (This was my last year teaching. I moved into the business world the following year.)
