maybe slightly off topic, but for those of you who are interested in the problems in mexico, look at valor por Tamaulipas. or follow on twitter , facebook. it gives the local citizens info in real time of any problems. all in Spanish, and colloquial as well. but never the less gives an insight to the real problems. I have to visit regularly and have close family there, for the past two months violence and kidnappings have increased significantly. here most foreigners don't have any real idea of the outside world..

The Michoacan thread on TOB gets a lot of views. For the most part, I think the readers there appreciate the information in the news links I provide. A few readers are deeply committed to some highly romanticized notion which holds the vigilantes forth as saviors. They are having trouble facing the reality that the leadership of the AUS movement have been exposed as a bunch of criminals and assassins. They accuse me of somehow manipulating the news. Although I have often been criticized for the things I have written, it is a new experience to be criticized for what other journalists have written.

Dr. Mireles has a very large following in Michoacan.  I know several people living in the Los Reyes area that believe in his message and follow his activities daily on the internet. They are glued to their smart phones and tablets. 

They don't call them "vigilantes" in the municipo's they have entered. they are called "communitarios".  They are viewed as hero's and saviors.  In my friends pueblo, 5000 population, the general public is happy they are there.  They feel safer.  Business has picked up.

You might think Dr. Mireles is a pathological deceiver, a drug trafficker, or a member of another cartel.  Our opinion of the man don't matter.  The man is getting his message out there and his followers are growing in number.
