Well, let's see about Ronnie: White, tall, handsome (and I never heard he was born in public housing as the sixth kid of a welfare mom)..........not too bad a position under nature's cornucopia to start out with. Charming, absolutely. Savvy, yes. And smart enough. Probably smarter than most of his congressmen.

I always get a kick out of "success" stories that start out like that and claim that "anybody can make it". Perhaps.

Maybe the "screw you" people who did make it without a trust fund background need to justify their uncharitable attitude toward the s.o.l.'s among us.

Exactly,and with the new law passed Schools will be required to provide more whole grains, lean protein, fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as free drinking water where meals are served.

Personally, I think thats great but I see a huge potential of wasted tax dollars.

Free drinking water with meals? That's an outrage! Make the little bastards pay for their water. Free, harrumph, just think of the wasted dollars!

I guess the little dears can't drink tap water? Or must it be in a plastic bottle increasing landfill (and money) waste.

Bombs are cheap enough to make, but if you want to get fancy and have some wealthy taxpayers to back it you can pick up a Tomahawk cruise missile for around $750,000 or so. I don't think that includes the warhead, but those are cheap enough to make a simple "bang." Nukes cost more.

Back to what kids eat: Americans' eating habits are costing an increasing chunk of medical care. As the population ages, it will only get worse. It all starts with what kids get used to and continue to eat as adults: Greasy burgers and fries, sugary drinks, and all the snack foods (loaded with chemicals) that have a shelf life longer than our own.

The problem can be ignored or it can be seriously discussed in the public arena. It deserves discussion, IMO.
We don't yet have a comprehensive food labeling law that includes everything we eat and drink. For instance, do most of you know what chemicals are added to wines for purposes of making them taste better than they deserve to? Some things commonly known as poisons are added as flavor enhances. Labeling laws don't include liquor. Do you know that "natural flavors" on labels can include MSG, or what terms are used to disguise those nasty artery clogging fats?

I don't think the government can dictate food choices effectively, but they can do Job One: insisting that food and drink providers give us the true information about the foods and drinks we consume. Then, the choices we make for ourselves and our children are fueled by knowledge. Lobbyists don't want this, so as per usual:
FOLLOW THE MONEY. And harass your government.

The bombs and drones are expensive but at least they kill people. The kids will just piss the water away and if they're too poor to afford water their lazy parents should get a job!

Actually it's not forbidden for food handling establishments to donate un-served food to pantries or soup kitchens thanks to the Good Samaritan Act passed in 1988.

That is the policy and as a rule they don't but they can and did when unusual circumstances arose such as an unplanned school closing and they were left holding perishables.

I haven't the drive, motivation, time or talent to find anything pertainint to federal funds for schools as I am sure it is a tome of some heft.
