Laptop repair locally
My wife's laptop has died. I suspect it is a power supply, or AC adapter problem.
Any recommendations for a local repair place.
It is an Acer laptop.

My laptop fan died - took it to the place next to Cafe Magana - he ended up having to leave it in Guad for repair there (parts issue) - so it took maybe a week or so
I am a happy customer! The problem was fixed.

Re: Laptop repair locally
Have you tried it plugged into the AC without the battery? Sometimes, those batteries retain an image that blocks the power-up of the hardware.
Also, sometimes leaving the laptop plugged in, with battery, for 24 hours kick-starts them.
Also, if the AC adaptor is two cords with a power block in the middle, ensure that the removable part of the cord is firmly seated in the block.
If still no power, then most likely the PSU (power supply unit) inside, which can be replaced by a knowledgeable laptop repair person (that part is standard and can be purchased in Guadalajara).

All of the above suggestions have been tried, tested and the result is the same.HelperGuy wrote:Have you tried it plugged into the AC without the battery? Sometimes, those batteries retain an image that blocks the power-up of the hardware.

I am increasingly convinced that the problem is the PSU, but I do not know where to go to find a reputable service person to replace it.
If it was a tower, I would do it myself, but laptops are outside of my field of experience.
Thx for the help, and if you have a recommendation for a repair person, it would be appreciated.

Re: Laptop repair locally
With a laptop, you might want to consider a "new" motherboard rather than getting into board diagnosis / repair.
I just had this happen with an older Dell and was able to get a "motherboard" for the unit very inexpensively - the quotes are because it was actually sold as the complete bottom case on E-bay. They are refurbs, guaranteed working condition.
All that had to be done was transfer the keyboard, drives, memory cards, battery, and the screen, which takes 1 to 2 hours (someone who actually knows what they are doing would have done it much faster than I did.....) ;-)
Worked out great.
