Fido Jars Available Locally? Empty Fido Jars Available Locally?

Post by the virginian Thu Feb 26, 2015 2:44 pm

I depart DC for Chapala in two days. I have a small collection of Picklit jars for fermenting veggies but sadly I won't be bringing them with me. They are basically Fido Jars with a hole drilled through the center of the lid..into which a rubber gasket and an airlock is inserted. After hearing about the troubles with mexican mail service I'm hoping someone lakeside will know of a local source for Fido Jars. Maybe someone has one or several in their attic?

Anyone fermenting foods lakeside?

Yes, but not intentionally..... lol!

When I saw Fido Jars, my first thought was, it is some kind of a container for dog food.  Rolling Eyes

Now I hope someone can seriously help you with your quest. As you can see, I don't have the foggiest.

Sorry, I don't know how to edit my posts, or reply directly to a particular comment. But here is the pickl-it website. It has lots of images of modified Fido jars..you may recognize them.

So that's a fido jar ... I never knew the name for them.
I have never looked for them here, but I'd say odds are quite good that you could find them lakeside ... maybe Soriana or Walmart. You absolutely could get them in Guadalajara.
But not with the hole in the lid.
But bring the airlocks--you could just use them w/mason jars. (You can get airlocks at the brewing supply store in Guadalajara, too.)
