I have tentatively agreed to drive a friend's US plated vehicle to the border - without him going along. What documentation will I require to do this legally?

If your friend has already attained Permanente status, he will need to get a Retorno Seguro (Safe Return) document. You can be designated as the driver. If your friend is still FM2/FM3 or Temporal I would suggest that you get a Power of Attorney from you friend. Spencer's office can set up either of these documents for you for about 500 pesos. If you need the Retorno, give yourself at least 5 days for the process... and once issued you have 5 business days to get outa Dodge..... Dodge in this case being Mexico!

When I drive these cars north, I use Spencer to insure I have the proper paperwork. There is one process and documents needed for a retorno seguro and another for a carte poder (POA).  Where you live makes a difference too.  USA or Canadian vehicle is also a factor.  Check with Spencer for his fee's
