I need a U.S. Address Empty I need a U.S. Address

Post by Pogo Wed Oct 16, 2013 4:26 pm

I need a U.S. address, but I am totally fed up with being used by (yes, I meant that) MBE. Their fees are outrageously expensive and their service is mediocre at best. We have looked at iShop services and Handymail and found them to be about the same.

Has anyone onboard found an easier, better, less expensive way to have a U.S. address and get occasional mail? No packages, no magazines, no catalogs - just an occasional birthday card. Any advice will be appreciated.

We've used HandyMail for over 8 years. I've had only good service from them. Nothing mediocre about it.

Sometimes needing an US address is about more than just getting one's mail.

Can't imagine why an occasional birthday card requires a US address but, fill your boots, I can't help - sorry.

I've used Sol & Luna in the shopping center with El Torito. Works fine and you can have 3 on a box to save money

All my mail gets to me from Canada via the good ole Mexican postal service. Yeah sometimes it takes 6 weeks but it always gets here.

We're Canadian and for seven years, we have maintained a permanent Canadian mailing address at a Canadian mail forwarding service just a few blocks from our last home in Canada. Here, we use Sol y Luna and have our Canadian mail forwarded monthly to Sol y Luna's Laredo drop box, but we could choose to have our mail sent directly to our Mexican street address if we wanted. Occasionally we get our mail couriered from our Canadian mailing service to our door if we're expecting something important enough to warrant the extra cost. We find it very convenient to have one mailing address which we can keep forever no matter where we are. We have a Vonage phone with a Canadian number too - makes it easy for friends and family to keep in touch by phone, and it's allowed us to move several times within Mexico while keeping the same phone number.

The Canadian address looks like a street address, so we don't have any problems with people refusing to send things to a PO box.

Our solution is easier and better for us, but not less expensive. For us, the price is worth it.

We have had a Mexican PO box for the last 9 years here in Jocotepec. No problems, mail from Canada in about 15 days.

we use sol luna also, and we get an e-mail when we have mail, so we don't have stop in and check. A single box is $360 pesos per month

I'v used Handy Mail and they were excellent - don't know if you can share a box and the cost. I now use Sol Y Luna - very happy with them and I pay 1/3 the fee since there are three of us on the account.

Cancelled Handy mail after 7 years, great service, however, why spend over 2500 pesos per year for nothing. I handle everything of importance on line. Other items are forwarded to my home in Chapala every 6 months, after weeding out the junk!

Yep, that's the way to go. Just about everything can be done on-line now a days. Even magazine subscriptions can be downloaded. Just find a friend back home to weed out the crap if you get anything at all. The only mail we ever receive are birthday cards and such. They get mailed directly to our casa here in Ajijic.

Newbie question: where is the Ajijic post office? We might want to rent a box there.

I'm guessing that the OP has other reasons for wanting a US address. So why is everyone trying to convince him/her to get a Mexican address? That doesn't seem helpful.
