Social Security checks? Empty Social Security checks?

Post by Flamingo Tue Oct 01, 2013 9:10 pm

Are we the only ones who haven't gotten our SS checks yet? Or is everyone else too young or Canadian (or both)?

We get direct deposit to our US account on the 2nd Wednesday of each month. Wouldn't want to wait on a check that may or may not be delivered.

We have direct deposit into our NOB bank, and usually it happens on the first. With all this idiocy, I am concerned that we may have been caught somehow.

Both of our  SS  Checks are deposited on the 3rd day of each months.

Today, is only the 1st day of the month and,  according to the News,  SS checks will be received as usual. We shall find out shortly!!!

Same as you.
As I said...mine happened yesterday.  Don't know how long it will continue if they don't come to their senses.
Play it....  month by month until the hostage is released.   Rolling Eyes

The Social Security Trust Fund is fully invested in securities issued by the Department of the Treasury, which is the safest investment in the history of economics...and backed by the "full faith and credit of the United States government."

So I wouldn't worry about it.

Even if the idiots refuse to raise the debt ceiling to pay the bills the government has already incurred, I would imagine SS would be at the head of the line to receive interest payments to fund the monthly payments of benefits.
It's not as though government income will cease altogether, as people/corporations, will still be paying taxes.

You would think they would be making even more money if they are not paying the Federal employees during this shut down.

The wages paid to federal employees is an economic stimulus and has a strong ripple effect throughout the economy. Think of what will happen to the economy of the city of Washington, where a large segment of the work force are federal employees.

That's true...the money is still coming in. What they lack is the authorization (permission) from the House to spend it.
Government can accumulate while workers/employees scratch to survive.
But as it ripples through the economy...less money will be coming in.

Don't forget folks laid off will get unemployment checks for the time they are laid off I believe unless the rules have changed.  When I was laid off one day every two weeks I got a check every two weeks for the day I was laid off but this was years ago. Anybody know for sure?
