Re: Early Bird
Do you mean the people who bought it from Rick and Heidi have closed it? I hadn´t even tried it yet. That didn´t take very long.

I'm confused. Do you mean 60's in Paradise? They were the ones with the new owners. The Early Bird is still in business as far as I know, with Rick holding court as always.

Re: Early Bird
I heard recently they had sold EB and were opening a non-food business on Ocompo. Perhaps the grape on my vine was incorresct?

Nope...coffeeguy wrote:I'm confused. Do you mean 60's in Paradise? They were the ones with the new owners. The Early Bird is still in business as far as I know, with Rick holding court as always.
Rick and Heidi have a new clothing shop near/next to Diane Pearl. Have nothing to do with Early Bird restaurant.
A fellow by the name of Jose had taken over Early Bird but he too has now gone...nobody there, sad to say.
He had kept up the quality and standards of Rick but for whatever reason couldn't make it.
This has nothing to do with 60's in Paradise...for Rick and Heidi, that was a long time ago.

Slainte, good to know that my grape´s reputation for providing accurate scoop remains unblemished. You saved him from a stomping at dawn in the plaza.

Re: Early Bird
Wow, that happened fast (the change in ownership and closing, I mean). And yeah, too bad, as Early Bird certainly had the best burgers at Lakeside and much other good comfort food.
Speaking of burgers, in particular, we just had lunch with friends at El Merendero on the corner of Constituccion and Colon and the burgers were fabulous. I don't think it's likely you can do better locally (my wife had the traditional and several ofthers had one with chipotle mayo and carmelized onions). Nice atmosphere too. Here's a link to local Tripadvisor reviews (Spanish): http://www.tripadvisor.es/Restaurant_Review-g499405-d4419666-Reviews-The_Merendero_Lake-Ajijic.html

Re: Early Bird
El Merendero now. Man, that place changes hands twice a year. Wasn't that long ago we were discussing what great onion soup a former owner made...

I love Panino for NOB comfort food, albeit, a little more money, still high in carbs!

Also EOA (east of Atlantic) food as well. The bratwurst with that mustard that Heide used to cart over on her trips to her native Germany. German potato salad as well.HelperGuy wrote:Shame. Best NOB food in town.
Burgers, hot dogs, reuben and roast beef sandwiches, are comfort food?...well I guess so if you like it.
Load 'em up with chiles habaneras...until you start to feel....well, uncomfortable.

That's good Jim...without carbs we would all diminish is size and probably disappear. LOLJim W wrote:I love Panino for NOB comfort food, albeit, a little more money, still high in carbs!
