Early Bird
We went to Early Bird for breakfast today. Now normally their breakfast is exceptional however today I ordered the bratwurst and sauerkraut special. What came out was a bratwurst sausage on a dry, crumbly hot dog bun with a poor imitation of sauerkraut thrown on top. My moms french toast was undercooked. Perhaps the "back-up" cook was working today? On the plus side Rick was as funny as usual.
Re: Early Bird
Bob, your breakfast was lousy because you ordered bratwurst and sauerkraut for breakfast, in Mexico, and God knows that ain't right. On the other hand we ordered bagels w/lox and cream cheese from a Jewish deli in Philadelphia and he was pleased. Next time try the juevos rancheros.

Just go by at lunch and have the Ruben on Jewish Rye. Chances are you'll feel better about the meal.
Bratwurst for brekkie? Ugh.

A Brat I could kind of understand, but it's the kraut that did me in.
Did you have a stein of beer with your breakfast?

Re: Early Bird
I had the Ruben sandwich last week - home made corned beef to die for with saurkraut on rye bread and it was wonderful even the kraut. And I don't understand an undercooked waffle at all. I would have said something to Rick about the waffle and he would probably give you a new one.

Being a Jocotepecker, I generally avoid driving into Gringo Gulch as much a possible. However, this sounds good enough to convince me to make the trip. Where be this wonderfull beanery?

As you head into Ajijic, make a right at El Serape Restaurant and head down hill of Pedro Moreno. You go about 3 blocks to Ocampo and make a left. The restaurant Early Bird Cafe is on the right about 3/4 down the block. They serve breakfast and lunch. When you walk in you pass two clothing areas and the restaurant is in the back.

Heidi is not making clothing any more - other than the special T shirts you will see. And she has a section of resale clothing. All with good prices. So if there is a Mrs. you might want to take her along - although she does have some nice men's shirts.

Re: Early Bird
So I made the trek Baghdad on the Lago to sample the much touted Reuben. I was not disappointed. The brisket, like the Kraut, were melt-in-your-mouth. The rye bread and the cheeses were exquisite and not overpowering...All the multiple flavors were perfectly balanced. The French-fries, excellent.
Rick always takes pride in preparing the best quality food possible...and quality comes at a price. The Reuben, fries, & soft drink were today's special at 95 pesos...not a cheap lunch, but worth every peso. Be sure to come on an empty stomach. Rick doesn't skimp on the portions.
