Re: What's Next? So P'OD
What's apalling is that so many people, now kids, are working for criminal organizations. Not considering whether or not the product (marijuana) is intrinsically bad, it is horrible the large numbers of people, and now children, are gainfully flouting the law of the land. That has to be a horrible thing, a horrible sign that that is a popular turn of society.
My personally feeling is that marijuana is not all that bad, and perhaps a lesser "evil" than its legal recreational drug counterpart, alcohol. Still, it is distasteful to imagine children working for the liquor industry. That, however, is a somewhat more palatable notion. What is horrifying is that so many have become lawless over this issue.
Society must re-evaluate its priorities or risk losing its civility.

Marijuana isn't the problem, it's the criminalization of same. In this case the results are even more devastating than those created by that exercise in stupidity now known as prohibition.
The cartels are way beyond just smuggling pot into the US. They have their fingers in every pie possible, from kidnapping and extortion to assassins for hire. If there's a dirty dollar (or peso) to be made somewhere, they're for it.
I think the root problem here is economic. Too few have too much, and there is nothing for the rest. Crime is way up everywhere.
The bumper stickers will read, "Eat the Rich, Eliminate the Middle Man." Lizzy

Child labor is nothing new in the world. And you nailed it, Lizzie. It's about world poverty. While many kids are playing expensive video games, many other kids go to bed hungry......or get into the drug industry.

And there's so much profit (due to the futility of trying to stop people from getting high) that they'll never be able to get out.
At this stage, legalization would only offer limited relief, because the cartels have expanded much like the Mafia did. The Mexican people were better off when the cartels were left alone.
A friend of ours suggested that they mine the border! Shee*it! Say What?!
This is coming from an educated man...who has spent time in Mexico.
Oh, that would go over well with border residents, wouldn't it?
Everybody wants to address the symptoms rather than the disease. Lizzy

For the more discerning smuggler there are remote controlled mini submarines available now that have the ability to travel 1000's of km's, follow preset GPS coordinates and arrive at an exact spot anywhere in the world. Try and stop them.......

The cartels seem to be fond of using US citizens of Latino descent.
I also noticed that the " Four US citizens killed...." (article in Borderland Beat) were of Latino descent. So, what do you think, coincidence, or conspiracy??? Lizzy
