Availability of sugar free foods
As a diabetic, will I be able to find a wide variety of sugar free items such as jams, syrups, sauces and the like in stores around the lake? Or will I need to find a way to have them sent from Canada? I should tell you, I have a very sweet tooth!

Re: Availability of sugar free foods
You can find them if you look and I think I have seen more over the last year, but they are not as plentiful as up NOB. And there will not be sugar-free in multiple brands for the same item generally.
That's specifically applies to shopping here at lakeside. My guess is you get less of an offering the more you get out of the expat shopping areas.

We make our own drinks down here with Stevia to sweeten in order to not eat splenda
or aspartame. You can buy big bags of Splenda down here if that is your bag. When I
was eating diet foods it was not hard to find them just not as much of a choice as Juan
said. Diet Mexican soda (not imported) is limitied to Coke zero, Coke light (diet),
squirt light and sprite light. Lots of imported sodas down here like Dr. Pepper,
Diet rite cola but they tend to cost more. More and more diet foods available in Mexico are becoming
available as time goes on. I expect more now that Mexico has passed the US in being
El Gordo.

WalMart here has a few shelves of product; Mega in Guadalajara has a decent selection in the farmacia. But as mentioned, certainly nothing like home.

Zed...
Dr Pepper, normal and diet, both now bottled in Mexico. Same price as Coca Cola.

Stevia LOL. Available at the grain store next to Gossips in Ajijic at the Carraterra.
WARNING this stuff is powerful try very small amounts at first. If you use too much it will be bitter. Just enough is the right amount.
