LCS Free Blood Sugar Testing
Free Blood Sugar Screening
The Lake Chapala Society is excited to announce an additional free healthcare
service to its already impressive list.
Beginning Friday, June 17, Diabetes Educators Lynn Turnbull and Dorothy
McCauley, will be offering blood sugar screenings.
Who: Diabetics and those interested in being tested for diabetes
Where: LCS Eye Clinic Room
Time: 10am – 12noon
When: Every 2nd and 3rd Friday of the month
Starting: June 17
In order to get an accurate reading, please be sure to eat a high carbohydrate
and protein meal two hours before you arrive for your screening. Carbohydrates
include: cereal, fruit, bread, English muffins. Proteins include: eggs, meat,
chicken, peanut butter, Canadian bacon, sausage and cheese. After this meal,
nothing to eat or drink until your screening.
Why not take advantage of this free opportunity to learn more about diabetes
control, or be tested to make certain you don't have diabetes.
Lynn and Dorothy look forward to talking with you and answering your questions.

Re: LCS Free Blood Sugar Testing
Oh, thank you, simpsca:
Dawg will be there this Friday. I was especially inspired by that giant chocolate malted with the whipped cream topping you were drinking in your post.
Here is how I see it. About 10:00AM, a waffle or hotcakes laden with maple syrup accompanied by breakfast sausage and eggs over easy or perhaps, in honor of the fact that we are in Mexico and no waffles are available at that particularly eatery, a local sugary Mexican substitute with eggs motuleños or divorciados with a side of langoniza sausage all washed down with straight tequila and sangrita and then off to the LCS for a noon appointment to test my blood sugar level. I´ll keep the Cruz Roja emergency number handy in case I need it.

This sounds like an excuse to eat a huge breakfast! What no Eggs Benedict? Mon's makes them on waffles - to die for.

Mom´s it is. Are they open at 10:00AM? Maybe I´ll skip the tequila and sangrita until after the test. Eggs Benedict on waffles? Be still my heart until we can get to a doctor who implants stents.

Yes Mom's is open at 10am - breakfast is finished at 11am. They have hotcakes also, sometimes cinnamon rolls and corn muffins. You could get a really high blood sugar reading if you want.

Re: LCS Free Blood Sugar Testing
Here's an addendum to the message I posted a few days ago. The Blood sugar
screenings are for the entire community; however at this time they can only
accomodate English speakers. See this note:
"At this time the blood sugar screening is for the expat community, which would
include LCS and non-members.
There are a few reasons for not including our Mexican neighbors at this time.
The nurses who are doing the screening are waiting for materials in Spanish.
Once they have those in hand, we'll then need to arrange for interpreters to be
on hand.
When we have this in place, there will be an update."
