PSA Testing
Dr. Juan, my father was diagnosed with prostrate cancer at the age of 59. He has beaten it and continues to enjoy a healthy life (He is now 70). Because this puts me in a high risk category, I get a prostrate exam and PSA test performed every 6 months. Are you able to do this testing from your office in Chapala?
Re: PSA Testing
Bob, PSA is a blood test. Any of the labs in the area can do it for you.

Re: PSA Testing
Some doctors offices can perform the physical exam and take the blood sample at same time in the office. That is what I am inquiring about.
Re: PSA Testing
Go a lab and tell them you want an APE = Anfigeno Prostático Especifico. Around $300 pesos.
Re: PSA Testing
Dr. Juan is my doc. He'll send you to a lab. I use ISI in Ajijic.

Re: PSA Testing
Bob, You got the right Doc for the job. I also use Doctor Juan. I had my PSA tested at the clinic across from the Tabarka restaurant and it was a little high. Doctor Juan had a question about how high it was so we loaded up and he took me to a clinic in GDL to have it retested. It still came back high. He gave me some sulfa drugs and prescribed saw palmetto. I was fixed in a couple of weeks. I had never had saw palmetto before but I now use it as a daily supplement and have not felt so good in a long time.

Re: PSA Testing
I had a full battery of blood tests done, $3,300 pesos at Tolsa labs and PSA testing was one of them.

Re: PSA Testing
I understand what Bob is asking and he needs a direct answer (private) from Dr. Juan Pablo. The PSA blood test is only one part. You also need a physical exam. My friend has severe benign prostate disease because none of the local doctors would do the physical exam except Dr. Leon. After seeing several physicians and even a urologist who was going to send him to Guadalajara to do very expensive tests WITHOUT DOING THE PHYSICAL TEST FIRST. At the time I did not know Dr. Juan Pablo so I took him to Dr. Leon. Since it's benign he takes medicine to relieve his symptoms, and avoided a lot of other tests.
I am guessing Dr. Juan Pablo will also, but you need both done to be safe.

Absolutely correct! I fired the first Doc I went to here for failing to do a physical exam. In my book it was unforgiveable.

Re: PSA Testing
How would I know if my Doc likes me, if he doesn't show it once in awhile?

I knew what you meant. I guess after you reach a certain age you have to take what ever thrill you can get.
