Why I like living here so much
For those of you who are already down here, you've undoubtedly seen these guys a multitude of times when you are out for dinner.
For those of you who are doing your research on Lakeside, or those just following this forum to get an idea about the area. This is a short video of a father & son team, musicians. The go from restaurant to restaurant here in the village playing for tips. We were lucky enough to be at Los Telares the other night when they came in. Nancy asked for Hotel California and this is what we got.
Our dinner, with wine and appetizers ran about the same as it would have cost at a Chilli's or an Applebees. But instead of chain, somewhat fast food, sitting in an air conditioned restaurant, with tons of other folks, we had a pleasant dinner, in a garden setting, under a blue sky and got to listen to these guys play one of our favorites.
That's why I like living here so much,

Yes, they are amazing and so under appreciated when they play...so many ignore them and have no idea what they are listening to. There are more of them in the group. The father is a music professor. My keyboardist plays the way the son plays that violin...i'm completely mesmerized by their talents, their mastery of their instruments and some of them master several instruments.
Thank you for posting that juanray, i think I watched it 5 times, I seriously love natural musical talent. You did a great job capturing the moment.

Re: Why I like living here so much
One of my favorite songs. I've heard it played by Mexican musicians before but this is the first time I've heard it played with words in Spanish. Thank you for posting your video.
Re: Why I like living here so much
We hired them to play for our party a year ago. They are great. Everybody loved them. Ask
for Beatles song "Elenor Rigby" (sp) next time. The father plays with Indian Musicians in town.
Very interesting to hear him play with a Sitar and Tabla.

Thank you so much for filming and posting. They are my favorites, and this video captures exactly why. And, yes, it is experiences like this that make us so glad we live here.

They are great and very talented. Maybe they are unappreciated sometimes when people get together with friends to talk and socialize and their catching-up time is interrupted.

They also put a four piece band sometimes with a portable drum that sounds
pretty good. Never get tired of them.

Must make your Sunday morning breakfast there very enjoyable.
Tough life isn't it?
Re: Why I like living here so much
I love the band but sometimes I think we are holding him back. He is good enough he probably should be in a bigger city to go forward with his music skills. Yes he can learn on his own and local musicians but he does have the potential to be more.

I doubt that anyone (collectively or individually) is holding him back. He appears to really enjoy doing what he does and he gets to do it with people he loves. So, it may be that being able to play with his father may be holding him here.
I'd be willing to bet that if he wanted to go elsewhere and try bigger cities, he could probably find a willing patron or two.
Re: Why I like living here so much
Why is it assumed by some that going to a bigger city, playing for larger audiences, making more money, or even becoming a more accomplished musician would be a better life than living simply, doing what he loves with people he loves? He does not have the bearing or manner of someone being held back. Rather he seems full of joy and love for what he is doing right where he is doing it. Bigger and more is not always better.

Re: Why I like living here so much
Its not bigger and more but the music scene and the quality and number of excellent musicians that you have in a big city. I hear you all and if he is happy that's great. Anybody ever asked him? It could be as simple as sending him to Guad a couple of days a week to be around other musicians and find a patron or patrons to help defer the cost. He is that good.

Re: Why I like living here so much
Zed, why would anyone else ask him the question that you brought up? Since you appear to be the most interested, you could find out from him more about his history and what dreams he may have, what is holding him back (if he is being held back). As Juanrey pointed out it should be easy to find him a couple of patrons to help him IF that is what he would want. For all we know he is already living his dream.

Re: Why I like living here so much
I just wondered. I am not so vain to think I am the first to have the idea. He doesn't speak that much English and I don't speak enough Spanglish to have a conversation at the level required. I just wondered if somebody has already asked him who has the language skills needed.
