Just covering all bases and looking for a private hospital in Guad for fixing a compound fracture.  Surgery will be needed as well as plates, pins, etc.

If you have contact information that would be a great time saver.  (phone, email, website)

Thanks in Advance.

Dr Sam gave a talk on this very subject a few months ago. His notes are on the Cruze Roja Website under Community Education.

Thanks, thats good information but i'm looking for actual hospitals or doctors.  I have to make a decision to hang in with the government system or bit the bullet and pay what will probably be big money to go private.

What you need is a good orthopedic surgeon, then go to one of the hospitals he likes.  I recommend Dr. Michael Dittmar.  dittmar@yahoo.com

Recomendations needed for Trauma Hospital Empty Re: Recomendations needed for Trauma Hospital

Post by simpsca Sat Jun 15, 2013 11:31 pm

I've seen Dr. Dittmar and he is one of the best.  But at Christmas I fell and fractured my big toe into 7 pieces.  Needed surgery immediately to take out the bone chips and needed a titanium screw to hold what was left together.  Dr. Gustavo came out to see me, did the surgery, and my orthopedic foot specialist Dr. in US said he did a very good job (several months after the surgery).  Name is Dr. Gustavo and this is his email:  gerr_07@hotmail.com. I saw him at Integrity Clinic through Dr. Lupita.   Clinic phone is 376 766-5154 - he will come out even at night to see you if it's an emergency.  I had almost no choices since it was Christmas most doctors were off.  He also did surgery on a friend who fractured his femur.  Friend did not have much money so worked out a payment plan and accepted installments.  He also negotiated the price of the hospital for my friend.  Just an FYI, my friend asked him why not do surgery at IMSS hospital and the doctor said they won't use the same quality titanium parts I will use and they will not last that long. Something to consider about using IMSS for a compound fracture.

I have had surgery in San Javier Hospital, San Jose, and Puerto Hierro.  My opinion is San Javier is the best care.  I would stay away from San Jose.

Thanks Guys,  That is the type of info I was looking for.  Curious now on the cost of the femur fracture repair and did they use plates or something to hold it all together.

Femur fractrue. Yes the doctor showed my friend and me photos of the titanium plate and screws he would use on his computer - he said it was the best quality available.  It was an internet site with photos and he explained why he needed that type of plate and several screws based on the bone condition of my friend and described which hardware would go where.

My friend, not having much money went with a clean but cheap hospital, St. Margarita. Dr. gave him these prices - 61, 500 for doctors - 5 drs in surgery, surgery, plate and screws, 8,500 Hospital Sta. Margarita. Plus 1,500 for ambulance in and same to go home from hospital since he couldn't walk.

Plus private duty nursing or nursing home for one month since the fracture was so severe and he was advanced in age so one month in bed after surgery.

santa margarita is an excellent up to date small hospital. been there.

about the femur break, several months ago, manuel[the recently injured car wash guy] had a clean break just below the big part at the top of his femur. the trauma doc that saw him at cruz roja told him to stay off it for 8 weeks. no cast was involved and he was back washing cars like nada had happened. a cast probably would have been better. no pins and plates were necessary.

Here's what my doctor recommended for a hospital - I wanted to pick a hospital BEFORE an accident or heart attack necessitated a high adrenalin rush drive there...

if you don´t have insurance another very good option is Hospital Angel Leaño, it is a teaching hospital with all the best doctors, and the plus is that in that Hospital you don´t have nosocomial bacterias living there!

This is a link that you might want to check:

Thanks for all the info.  We have decided to stay with the IMSS System unless today brings no satisfaction.  Hospital #180 is great and so are the nurses.  The problem is an over worked doctor who can't get his you know what together.  Long story and off to the hospital.......

I did get an email back from Dr. Dittmar stating that he isn't doing that kind of surgery any more.

Recomendations needed for Trauma Hospital Empty Titanium plate quality

Post by Texmexco Wed Jun 19, 2013 11:41 am

If you stick with the IMSS hospital, you might want to check into the quality of the titanium plate they plan to use. Might be worth it to offer a little extra f$$$ or a really high quality one, if they plan to use one of lesser quality. Just a thought.

Just an update on pricing for a broken femur repair.  The estimate from 3 surgeons went from a low of 4800 USD to 6500 USD.  One more estimate came in from, for lack of a better term, a facilitator in the Medical field at a whopping 15,000 USD.  IMSS charge was zero of course.  We were not happy with the mix up that caused a huge time delay but other than that all was good.
