When I moved here a wise person told me, "You will learn as much Spanish as you need." That has proven to be true. Take yourself to Moviestar and start communicating. Sometimes the clerk does speak English--or enough so that the two of you get across to each other. Sometimes they call a friend on the phone to help them interpret. Sometimes they get someone in from another store. Sometimes someone walks in and just begins helping you translate. This is all predicated on you going in friendly and respectful.

And sometimes I think I can post a question on a board and someone will be nice enough to give an an answer. After all, isn't that one of the purposes of all these boards?

But then, maybe this is my error in thinking. I see too many people who use boards for the purpose of berating others or think nothing of hijacking a thread with totally irrelevant comments.

But I also see there are people on boards who are willing to help when a question is asked; to offer their opinions without sarcasm; these are the people I was directing my question toward.
