Where can I get an oil change, filter change and lube job without leaving my car all day?

I buy synthetic oil at Costco and a filter at Autozone and many mechanics for 50 pesos will change it on the spot.

The car wash in Riberas, across from Magana, does oil changes w/filter while you wait, but at $480 I find it a little steep.

Car City was 360 pesos.
And the guy across from the Pemex on the libramiento also does them. Canuckbob used him and said he was good and cheap.

There is also an Oil Change place across the Libremento from Lake Taco who changes while you wait. I believe they are about $480 as well. However when you figure good oil is about $6 US per liter (usually need 5 liters) and a filter is about $6 US that adds up to $36 US just in materials so $480 (about $42 US) isn't so bad.

Looks like we posted at the same time Juan......jajaja.

I think Car City is using cheap bulk oil at that price.

Mike the Mechanic will come to your house and change it, not charge a lot, is a good guy, and is entertaining to boot.

Roberto "Next to Tony's" uses regular liters of oil (not bulk) - checks all levels - and speaks great English.

When he changed my oil last week, the cost was 400 pesos.

Depending on the time of day.... breakfast across the road or lunch at Tony's or Panino's (or any of the other 3 - 4 restaurants within 2 blocks)will occupy you while it's being done.

Yes... Lube, oil and filter

I didn't make an appointment.... I just dropped in and asked if he could do it right away. I took my Kindle and sat for the 20 - 30 minutes that it took.

I'm not sure how many liters (Quarts) my engine takes - I can't even find it in the owners manual - but I think I recall buying 5 liters quite a while ago. It is a 6 cyl. 1987 Olds Cutlass.

What do they "lube?" There's nothing to lube any longer.

You pretty much must tell them what to check. Things like windshield washer fluid seldom is checked. I always ask them to check the ball joints. Roads here beat the hell out of em. Also fuel filter check. I am told gas in Mexico is not as clean as NOB?

My exact thought. Didn't that end years & years ago. I can't remember getting anything lubed since the 80's.

Well maybe something, but certainly not a car.

on the west end of ajijic I went to Danny's automotive on Zaragoza 1/2 block east of Armando's. He also has oil and parts shop. He did my oil and filter change while I had lunch at Armandos. Did Great job. 475 pesos. Very fluent in English. I will be taking my car to him for any further necessities.

There are still door and hood hinges, door latches, emergency brake cable, hood release cable, etc. Larger heavier vehicles still have the grease fittings, as do many aftermarket ball joints and tie rod ends.

Check your maintenance guide and it likely shows that hinges, cables, etc.. should be lubes about every 25K or so, not at standard oil change interval.

Mike the Mechanic is in the US for a few months...left yesterday. A big bus repair outfit in Nashville asked him to come help them out for a few months. But he can't wait to get back! Hang on to his #.
