CRUZ ROJA.....Reminder
When you need medical help, especially after hours, they are an excellent starting point. Wife got a double scorpion sting last night, finally asked me to take her to Cruz Roja around 4:30 AM. There was one ahead of us, another scorpion sting 3 year old girl.
They gave Deb some kind of injection, a little something to aid sleep/pain. Bill was 50 pesos. Last time we used Ajijic clinic paid 200 pesos. We paid the same 200 voluntarily, they gave us 2 folios.....50 pesos for treatment, and 150 for donation. For some reason giving a donation feels better than paying a bill.

Went there yesterday for an X-ray and had the same experience on cost as you described, except mine was compared to Maskaras Clinic.
Talked to Dr. Sam and he was very helpful as well as being a real gentleman. Told him, I was glad he had survived the "lynch mob".
His demeanor only serves to get me to donate more to the CR.

Happy to hear Slainte. I know that less than 10% of the patient count @ CR is gringo and that Cruz Roja has an extremely well equipped facility.
As far as Dr. Sam goes, we got off to a rocky start, decided to have a face to face meeting many months ago, and all is good ever since. Truly amazing how attitudes change when a face is put to the name.

Re: CRUZ ROJA.....Reminder
A friend and her 8 year-old daughter just moved back to the US. A few months before they left the daughter was running, fell and got a long, bone-deep cut just above her knee. They took her to the Cruz Roja where the staff there cleansed the wound and stitched it up for 150 pesos. They were very patient and kind, I was told. It was her first experience with stitches, and a positive one.
Last week, in the US, a big rambunctious dog ran the little girl down and she hit her head on a doorway and got a cut on her eyebrow. It cost $1800 DOLLARS to get it stitched up. And they were brusque and impatient with the little girl.
This means that the price in the US was 150 TIMES the price in Mexico at the Cruz Roja. Good grief!
I am one who has needed the Cruz Roja on rare occasions. They may not be perfect, but I am sure glad they are THERE and we will continue to support their efforts.

Re: CRUZ ROJA.....Reminder
Just got word that it cost my friend an ADDITIONAL $679 Dollars JUST to have the six stitches REMOVED. So that was $2479 USD total for those stitches, compared to $150 PESOS here, at the Cruz Roja. That is 205 TIMES as much.

You are not comparing apples to apples - just sayin'
About a month ago my son got a fairly serious, deep cut in his leg when he fell while on a visit to Leon. Took him into a private hospital's Emergency to get stitched up. Bill was $2000 MX to the hospital, $5000 MX to the attending doctor and $500 MX for the prescriptions. Lucky for us he had travel insurance so was able to get most of it reimbursed. Still much less expensive than in the US though.
We are very fortunate to have an excellent Cruz Roja location so close by.

Re: CRUZ ROJA.....Reminder
I just discovered that Cruz Roja does not have a proper data base loaded so many costs for treatment are not billed.
For example, my wife's scorpion treatment.....charged 50 pesos, yet injection material cost for anti venom (?) was approx., 80 pesos, plus other material.
Please be generous with donations!

????? Trailrunner, it appears to me that they are extremely short handed, and doing a pretty good job handling the patient load!
Is their something I am missing regarding CR? You said alot of good things about them less than a month ago.

I still am saying good things, and will continue to do so. Too coin an old phrase, it appears, too many chiefs and not enough INDIANS.

i suspect that they discovered that trailrunner did not have the experience she claims, and rejected her "assistance". hence the flip flop?Jim W wrote:I still am saying good things, and will continue to do so. Too coin an old phrase, it appears, too many chiefs and not enough INDIANS.
from what i could see, there are enough indians in relation to jefes.

Pedro, My screw up....I refer to the medical team as the Indians, upper management as the chiefs. Currently, the Indians are a Doctor short...with proper staffing they work 24 hours on .... 48 off.... now I think close to 24 on and 24 off.
Regarding the Chiefs, we have been trying to complete a will, but stuck in probate, as the Chiefs have failed to sign required documents so we can give them 150,000 pesos, donated by our friend who passed and pay off creditors, including mortuary. This has been held up for 5 months, with no response from Cruz Roja......AKA Chiefs
