Around this time, people start looking for maple syrup around here. CostCo usually gets a load in from Quebec or Vermont.

Right now it's too early to bother looking (some will be found at SuperLake and maybe WalMart, but it's older stock). The sap hasn't started to run yet. Gotta be below freezing at night and above zero during the day... spring, basically. Then the sap runs and gets collected, but it takes a good couple of months and more before it gets processed and shipped to places like Mexico.

You said a mouthful. From what I understand, the Log Cabin "all natural" contains syrup made of brown rice and sugar, with only 4% actual maple syrup.

we get it when someone comes down from canada and they bring a large jug of it for us. needless to say we have plenty, even right now.

I know it's predicted to be a good year, but I hadn't heard that the weather was right yet, other than a brief spurt of warm weather that might have fooled the trees. But being here, I don't get the buzz that I did back home in Ottawa.
